Tea Party fav and political newbie Christine O'Donnell, with no money but with the backing of the Tea Party and Sarah Palin, may beat good ol' boy Mike Castle, a liberal Republican with big money and GOP establishment support.

If O'Donnell pulls it off, there will be shudders among the fat cat GOP suits as there is more and more talk about the Tea Party taking over the GOP (remember when there was earlier talk about the GOP taking over the Tea Party?).

Also, if O'Donnell wins, it will give many bonus points to Palin as she is one of the few big names in the GOP who is putting her reputation on the line to back candidates such as O'Donnell.

The other big names--people such as Romney and Gingrich--are hiding while sticking their fingers in the air. These phonies will wait until a parade is formed and marching down the street and will then jump in front of it and try to have you think they're leading it. They're not. Palin is the one out front on point.

Folks, if you have the time and patience, please read the above linked report that the City Council will discuss this week. Of particular importance is the page showing the fees.

However, the more important discussion is the one that is not being held: Having the City Council take over the Costa Mesa Sanitary District to save us all some money.

Our guess is that many citizens aren't even aware of the fact that our trash isn't picked up by the Costa Mesa Sanitary District--they have no trash trucks. It's picked up by a private trash hauler--CR&R. You as a taxpayer are paying CR&R--it's in your property tax bill.

The Costa Mesa Sanitary District--with a staff, it's own building and five elected officials, all paid for by us--just gives a contract to CR&R.

Why are we paying for a Sanitary District when the City Council and Costa Mesa municipal government can easily handle our waste management needs just as it's done in many other cities?

HERE'S A SIMPLIFIED EXAMPLE OF THE WAY WE SEE IT

Let's put this in simple and different terms. Say you want to hire someone to mow your lawn. You could just hire the mower directly.

Suppose, however, the politicians wanted to make some money. They could start a Lawn Mowing District and make you go through the district to have your lawn mowed.

The District wouldn't actually mow any lawns and wouldn't own any lawn mowers. They'd just call the mower and have him mow your lawn. Of course, they would take a cut for doing this "service," for you.

And, naturally, they'd need a building in which to work, and they'd need a staff. They'd also have to have an elected board of five commissioners who would each get paid and have benefits that you have to pay for.

To the CM PRESS, one of the most interesting things about the proposed burning of the Koran is the difference in the way this is being treated by non-Muslims (mostly putative Christians in the West), on the one hand, who have a do your own thing idea about religion and God, and Muslims, on the other hand, who really, really believe in their religion and in their idea of God and who believe that there should be no religion but Islam, no laws but Islamic laws, and no concept of God except the Muslim concept.

It should be clear to anyone who understands these things and who also understands a little about how the universe works, that Christianity is going to fall to Islam in America and the rest of the Western world so long as it does take a "tolerant," do your own thing, view. This is so, because the natural order says it is so. It's just the way things work.

Scratch the surface and you'll see that there is no genuine, selfless tolerance in nature. There is only competition and struggle. Humans are part of nature, and the ways of nature play out in human affairs as much as they do in an ant hill. You may delude yourself into thinking this isn't so, but then you'll always be confused and never understand why things happen in our world as they do.

What we're seeing, with the rise of Islam in the West and with the calls for tolerance by so-called Christians, is natural selection working itself out in the religions of man.

When Christianity was ascendant, it was not tolerant. Now that it is tolerant, it is in decline.
