Coulter points out something that I've been writing about for years:  The cliche that the U.S. is a nation of immigrants so we must let everyone in.

The fact is that EVERY nation is a nation of immigrants.  People have feet and they've been moving around on the planet even before they were truly human.

Distinct peoples who moved onto lands and populated those lands with their kind and who fought to keep those lands for their kind, became the nations we now know.  Peoples who moved onto lands and who didn't populate those lands and/or who didn't fight to keep them for their kind, lost those lands.

That's the way it works in the long view of history.  No one has a moral right to any land that they happen to now call their nation, and no other peoples have a moral right to that land either.  The right comes from populating that land with your kind and fighting to keep that land for your kind.

TWO FIRES EXTINGUISHED IN SUSPECTED LATINO GANG HANGOUT ON WESTSIDE

The OC REGISTER is reporting (behind their paywall) that at 7:30 PM, Wednesday, the CMFD put out two fires at the vacant Port Mesa Christian School and Happy Child Preschool located in a former church building in the 600 block of Hamilton Street.  It was suggested in the article that the building was serving as a gang hangout, apparently due in part to the graffiti at the location.  Some of the graffiti was anti-CMPD in nature.

This is the general location of some of the slums that the CM PRESS has consistently been asking the City Council to get rid of.

NOTE: The Daily Pilot [HERE] has now reported on these fires but has sanitized it's report to remove any mention of gangs and graffiti.

Hopefully, Costa Mesa's municipal government will act to keep citizens safe from the ever growing mentally ill homeless population that is being attracted here by charities.

DAILY PILOT ARTICLE ON THE MUDDLED NUISANCE ORDINANCE 

It was clear from the comments from the public and also from the Councilmembers that the proposed changes to our City ordinances presented to the Council and the public last night were confusing and overreaching and too broad in some areas.

Mayor Righeimer once again showed his ability to get to the heart of the matter when he asked that staff come back with a proposal that clearly shows what is new and what is old in the ordinance and is organized so it is less confusing. He also reminded staff of what the Council was looking for in such an ordinance.

Now, we're not sure who has a tin ear on staff, but we think most people understood what the Planning Commission and the Council were trying to do when the subject of the new ordinance came up and staff was directed to come back with language for it

Folks, what the mayor and the other good Councilmembers want is a tool to use so they can legally go after crime infested slums in the city.  What they were presented with last night was proposed language that could screw with every homeowner in Costa Mesa for the most minor of things.

As the mayor correctly said at one point last night: "We don't want to be Irvine, but we also don't want to be Wilmington."

ROHRABACHER FOR SPEAKER!

Yeah, Congressman Rohrabacher!

As I've written before, when I was just out of the Marines I lived in Washington, D.C. and I was dating a girl who got a job as the secretary at the national HQ of YAF.  As a result, I got to know some of the people in the organization.  And, one of the names that kept coming up all the time was that of a rising political light in California named Dana Rohrabacher.

Word was that he was a straight shooter and had solid conservative views.

Now, according to the above linked article, Congressman Rohrabacher is letting weak sister John Boehner know that his position as speaker may be in trouble if he rolls over on immigration.  

It's good to see at least one GOP Big--Congressman Rohrabacher--taking a strong stand for the citizens of this country and the rule of law.  Maybe he can inject some brains and testosterone into the party.

The babies that are destroyed have fingers and toes and eyes and ears.   They are living beings.  It really doesn't matter that they are not fully independent or that they don't have adult consciousness.  They are still human beings at a stage of life that is normal for our species.

WHAT IS A FATHER?

A father of our species is a male who has contributed 23 of his chromosomes to the 23 chromosomes of his female mate to produce a new child who will have 46 chromosomes containing approximately 20,000 genes that are made up of approximately 3.1 billion combinations of the four chemicals of DNA that are abbreviated as A,T,C,G. These 46 chromosomes with their genes are the blueprint for making a human being.

 It is the male of our species who contributes most of the mutations that are necessary to ensure that our form of life can adjust to ever changing conditions, and it is for this reason that a healthy male produces new sperm every day up until the time of his death of old age.

Each spermatozoa produced, carries 23 chromosomes of the father.  The sperm change with relatively minor changes in the external and internal environments of the male, and just a few degrees of temperature difference in the external environment will cause the male sperm to change as the genetic code he carries tinkers to adjust to the new temperature. The tinkering is often in the form of mutations.

The female of our species gets her eggs all at once and at a fairly early age. They do not change under normal circumstances.  The eggs are thus cast in stone so to speak and this provides stability to our species so that the changes that may be made by the sperm, do not happen too fast during temporary changes in world conditions--such as, and just to continue with the example above--temporary temperature changes.

Because of a father and a mother, our species will continue on, and if the male and female have mated wisely, following the dictates of nature to make more like yourself,  the particular genetic code that makes the mother and father part of a particular people will also carry on.  Like with like is the way.

One of these major false premises is the one that is tacitly held by many White people, to wit, that all humans are really White people under different paint jobs and if there are any differences (often seen in statistical analyses of behaviors and capabilities) that it is because of White racism.

LIB HARLAN WANTS TO RAISE BUSINESS LICENSE FEES

As with other local libs, this guy Jeffrey Harlan wants Costa Mesa to raise fees on businesses.  Why?  Well, apparently, because we can.

We take a different view.  Doing business in California is expensive.  Costa Mesa officials should be screaming from the rafters that our City can offset some of  those expenses by offering low fees on businesses.

In his above linked column, Harlan tells readers that a former employer of his moved to Costa Mesa because our City isn't too ritzy.  Huh?  That's a recommendation for a city? Maybe they should have moved to Compton.  That's even less ritzy.  Who the hell was his former employer--a charity for people with little money?

Harlan apparently knows very little about retail businesses if the general tenor of his column is any clue. So, let me give him a little primer.  Most national credit tenants (that's the category we want to attract) live and die based on demographic reports.  These reports usually have one, three and five mile rings.  Most of these retailers are most interested in the one mile ring which is their primary market area.  Why do we want to attract these tenants?  One reason is  because they're not usually undercapitalized and can stay in business through dry periods when less capitalized businesses go broke.

As we've written before, the CEOs of these national credit tenant businesses don't just fall out of bed one day and throw a dart at a map to find a new location.  They know which of their stores are high performing and which are underperforming.  And, they know the demographics of these stores.  So, when they want to expand, and most always want to expand, they look for demographics most like their high performing stores.

Thus, if what they sell is popular with people of a certain ethnicity, with a certain education level, who make a certain amount of money, they look for locations with a high number of people in that category within their primary market area.

Now, a City is improving when you see retailers come in who are a little more ritzy (yes, Harlan, I wrote ritzy) and not less so.  In Costa Mesa, we've seen a transformation of East 17th Street as more ritzy retailers have replaced less ritzy ones.  And, this has added to the general upscaling of the whole of the Eastside as more young professionals move there.

So, one might ask: Do the upscale retailers come because of an upscale population or does the upscale population come because of the upscale retailers?  No chicken or egg conundrum here, folks, because it actually works both ways, and once it starts it becomes a symbiotic thing.

 Harlan lives on the now somewhat ritzy Eastside.  If he likes things less ritzy, he can certainly move to the Westside--say around some of the charities.

As we've written before, and which some in local government also understand, Costa Mesa must compete with other cities for the best retailers and the best residents.  We don't compete successfully if we have a mindset that praises our city for being less ritzy and with higher fees on business.

And, we don't improve our City (which should be our ultimate goal)  if all we attract are pawn shops, thrift stores and charities, and that's what we'll attract if we set our goals too low and if we show pride in being less ritzy.
