APARTMENT FIRE THIS MORNING AT 655 W. BAKER STREET

At approximately 11:58 AM this morning, the Costa Mesa Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 655 W. Baker Street, Unit W-103, in Costa Mesa.


Fire department personnel arrived on scene within five minutes and reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the first floor of a 2 story apartment complex.  A second alarm was requested immediately due to the rapid spread of the fire and the high potential for loss of life and property. 

Six Engines, Three Trucks, one Light Air Unit and a Three Battalion Chiefs, a total of thirty-six personnel, were needed to control the fire which took approximately 35 minutes.  Automatic aid was provided by the Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, and Fountain Valley Fire Departments. 

There were no reports of injuries to firefighters or civilians.          

Preliminary fire damage costs to the structure and contents are still being determined.  The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation and being handled by the Costa Mesa Fire Department Arson Investigation Team.
