Hmmm.  Let's see.  You're an upwardly mobile new family with young kids.  Where will you look for a home?  Hmmm.

Irvine has a low crime rate.  Is a clean city. Has good schools. No homeless problem.  Not full of charities that act as magnets to bring in people who can't afford to live there. No troubled motels.


Costa Mesa has a higher crime rate. Is lagging in infrastructure. Has slums. Has bad schools. Has a homeless problem.  Is full of charities and has a big charity establishment.  Has troubled motels.

Cities compete for the best citizens.  Costa Mesa has to compete better.

OC REGISTER STORY ABOUT CRIME RATE CLAIMS IN IRVINE

Summary: The story says that Irvine needs to add asterisks to its claim of being the safest U.S. city.

As with most stories about crime, and violent crime in particular, the above linked story misses the real reasons why some cities are safer than others:  it's racial.

If you have the time and desire, just look up the demographics of the most violent cities and the least violent ones and you'll find that the most violent cities are almost always majority Black and the least violent ones are almost always majority White.

Here's just one example. In the Register story we are told that Fishers, Ind. is the safest U.S. city.

HERE are the demographics of Fishers.  You will note that the city is 85.60% White and only 5.60% Black.

But you goodies and brain dead folk may disagree, why, sputter, sputter the statistics must be racist. Fine.  Please send us the names of cities where what we've written above isn't true.  We'll be happy to publish the names of those cities and their actual statistics.

Oh, sorry, that should read "Latino Activists."  Why, if he had met with White Activists, that would be racist.

Perhaps he'll meet next with Black and Asian Activists and maybe even with the Black Congressional Caucus and the Latino Congressional Caucus and the Asian Congressional Caucus.

Naturally, he can't meet with the White Congressional Caucus, because there isn't one.  Yup, that would be racist.

Valentine whines because his lefty pal Wendy Leece wasn't appointed as Mayor or Mayor Pro Tem.

Whaaaaaaaaa, she deserved it, whaaaaaaa, whaaaaa, bawl. What a bunch of crap!

Wendy has been horrible as a Councilperson and she'd be even more horrible if she were the Mayor or Mayor Pro Tem.

How the hell can a person such as Leece, who lives on the Westside, sit on the dais for six years and do nothing to improve the Westside?  What a waste of a seat.

By the way, have you noticed how fast the Pilot puts up crap columns such as Valentine's but is slow to put up opposing columns?  In fact, Valentine's column went up the very day after the Councilmeeting.

It seems the local lefties have the Daily Pilot in their pocket.

You may recall from an earlier column in the CM PRESS how we sent over a persuasive column to the Pilot  in favor of the charter, and after that we had to keep emailing the paper asking when it might appear if ever.  And then, when the Pilot apparently got tired of us asking, they cut our signed column down to a lousy two paragraphs, changed it to a letter, and buried it the letters section under a lead letter with a bold headline that made it look as though all letters that day were about bicycle safety.

AEDES AEGYPTI mosquitoes can spread dengue fever.  So, officials in Florida have a plan afoot to release millions of males of the species who have been genetically modified to mate with wild females and pass along a birth defect that kills their progeny before reaching maturity and before reproducing.  In a few generations the species is expected to die off.
