AS YOU READ ABOUT PEOPLE RESIGNING FROM THE NON-PROFIT THAT WANTED TO BUY THE FAIRGROUNDS, YOU MAY RECALL THAT THE CM PRESS WROTE THE FOLLOWING WAY BACK IN AUGUST:
ORANGE COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS--HOW REAL ESTATE FORTUNES ARE MADE!

Maybe there really are some folks who want to buy the OC Fairgrounds and keep it as a fairgrounds forever. Well, it's possible. But possibility is not the issue. Probability is.
You see, there have to be some who see it as a chance to make many millions of dollars with very little risk.
Here, by the numbers, is how the gravy train can run for those who want to make a killing in real estate (in simplest terms). Note that the first step can be used both by those who really do want to keep it as a fairgrounds forever and by those who want to make a big profit:
1. Set up a non-profit corporation and buy the fairgrounds as fairgrounds,with fairgrounds zoning--the land is valued much less for such uses than for some other uses--so you'll get it for a song. Tell everyone who will listen that you intend to keep it as fairgrounds forever to help with your charitable causes and to serve Costa Mesa. You especially want to help the kids.
2. Once you own the fairgrounds, land bank it for a couple of years while servicing your debt (at least in part) by intensifying its present fairgrounds uses.
3. Work to elect a friendly Costa Mesa City Council.
4. Once you have a friendly City Council (you only need three of the five to be on board with you) claim that the fairgrounds is not bringing in the money you thought it would and you need a zoning change for a large portion of the land so you can maintain the remaining part as a reduced size fairgrounds in order to continue helping poor children who will all become gang members unless you help them with after school programs, etc.
5. Have your pals on the Costa Mesa City Council vote to change the zoning on a large part of the land to residential, office, retail or even a few institutional uses. (Laugh silently to yourself as you hear your Council stooges talking about Costa Mesa being a city with a heart, and how we have to help the children.)
6. Sell those rezoned parts of the land at the much higher price you'll get with the new zoning. In public, shed [crocodile] tears for the loss of the land but claim that, gee, you need the money to help the poor at risk children. Also say that the new smaller fairgrounds will be much better than the old larger version because you're going to bring in some new activities for children and families.
7. Manipulate public opinion by having your dimwitted surrogates (on the Council, in the blogosphere, and in the local press) claim that those who see what you're doing, and who speak out about it, hate children and especially poor brown children, and that unless you can proceed, these poor brown children will turn to gangs and terrorize the city.
8. Laugh as you go to the bank to count your money.

The real story: Nature doesn't sing kumbaya. It has set up a competition for the survival of the fittest DNA. If the native fish can't compete, they lose.The same thing is happening in England where the non-native Gray Squirrel is taking over from the native Red Squirrel.
It's also happening right here in Costa Mesa in
Fairview Park where so called non-native plants have taken over from so-called native plants and where the City is spending our money to try to grow so-called native plants (that will need constant human life-support and tax money infusions) where they are, by definition, no longer native since they have not been able to compete with the so-called non-native plants which need no human care at all to thrive and make a living, which shows, thereby, that they are the new natives.
Meanwhile, nature's eternal contest for the survival of the fittest continues. If you're into betting, put your money on nature, not on the efforts of man to stop the competition.
Nature doesn't care which DNA wins the race for survival. The winner is, by definition, the best and the fittest.
And, here's something else. Nature's eternal competition plays out among humans in many ways, including in the competition of nations, ideologies,
philosophies and religions.

HE U.S. PURSUES ITS GET OUT OF THE BURQAS AND GET INTO BIKINIS STRATEGYThe US government seems to be full of idiots. All they try to do is buy friends. That's what is going on in Afghanistan and Iraq. Our "leaders" wrongly think that they can buy loyalty because these idiot leaders we keep throwing up in this country have a materialistic world view and believe that all other people have the same world view and can eventually be bought off.When we leave Iraq and Afghanistan, the puppets we put in power will be overthrown. Why? Because the people in those countries are less motivated by wealth than they are by spirituality and we won't be able to stay there long enough to reeducate all the people to an American gold is good and religion is just for pretend worldview.
To transform those countries into an ersatz U.S. clone (metaphorically get the women out of
Burqas and into Bikinis), the U.S. would have to destroy Islam.
This isn't likely to happen, even though the PR types in our government constantly try to push a watered down version of that religion as the "real" Islam. No one is buying it, and anyone who understands Islam knows why.
The fact is that Muslims believe there really is a God and that He wants all humans to be Muslims. If they are not Muslims, then they are to be destroyed.
In the U.S., where religion has mostly become a religion of man, and where God has become something of a do your own thing Hippie in the sky who tells humans to do whatever they want, there is a very basic misunderstanding of Islam, in that many of our people see Islam as being similar to these U.S. cafeteria views of religion. It's not.
Here's an example of the basic disconnect between U.S. views and Islamic views: Back when the Ayatollah Khomeini took over Iran, we called him crazy because we couldn't bribe him. Khomeini was happy to just sit on a prayer mat and live in humble surroundings and be a combination of a Pope and a President with none of the ostentation. This frustrated U.S. leaders who were used to people like the Shah who could be bought off with gold. So, again, in our leaders' eyes, Khomeini was crazy because he couldn't be bought off, and the Shah was not crazy because he could be bought off.If the U.S. doesn't start getting brighter people as leaders, we're just going to see many more meaningless wars that we will lose in the long run of history and the deaths of many of our young people for absolutely nothing.
