PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING TONIGHT (6/25--6:30 P.M.)The Parks and Recreation Commission will vote tonight on which parks in Costa Mesa should be "passive," "active" or "mixed."
As you may recall, Paularino Park was named the first "passive" park in the City. Over the past year it has been the test case for this designation and has been the catalyst for the other two designations that will be considered tonight.
In addition to the passive designation for Paularino Park, the City planted a number of trees and put in a rock feature. This rock feature is both aesthetic and functional and has now become one of the most popular spots in the park. As a result, citizens are now asking that the City install an additional rock feature.
As most citizens in Mesa North will tell you, the passive designation for Paularino Park has been an unqualified success.
In the past, many people, including families with young children, avoided the park because of the hassles and dangers associated with having to compete with team sports activities.
Once Paularino was declared a passive park, the number of people using the park increased.
