THOMAS SOWELL ON THE COMING RACE WAR

Sowell says that skirmishes in the race war have been going on for some time with all the attacks on Whites by Blacks, but the MSM are covering it up.

Now, dear friends, Sowell sounds like the CM PRESS doesn't he?  Does it sound more real to you when you hear it from him? Does the fact that Sowell is Black give you the cover to actually think about what's going on and even discuss it with others?

But, Sowell actually starts too far downstream in his talk about a race war, because it is really a gene war and it has been going on since life began, as each form of life struggles to survive and be on top.

It is the genotype of one form of life trying to win the best seats in the house from the genotype of other forms of life that also want those seats.  In fact, in nature, and we humans are part of nature, the fiercest struggle is often between closely related organisms--that's because they generally have the same needs and wants, and there is always a hierarchy of anything and everything in existence, and all organisms are programmed to want the best of everything, not the worst. It is natural to want to be number 1.

Now, we humans don't often think in the terms I just used, but scratch the surface and keep scratching and you'll get to the nub of the matter.  Of course, this doesn't help you much when you're targeted for the color of your skin, but maybe on an intellectual level--even on a genetic level--it helps to understand "senseless" attacks by Blacks on Whites who are simply minding their own business and meaning no one any harm.

Whether you take Sowelll's surface view of things or do scratch the surface, isn't that important.  What is important is that you wake up and start seeing the world as it really is, and stop worrying about being  a "racist" because you do understand that the statistics and reports (as you read in the CM PRESS) of the horrendous level of hate crime attacks on Whites by Blacks are real.  They are not made up by "racists" to foment trouble or cause you to hate others.  Facts are facts.  Know the facts and you'll be safer.

A MOVIE?

As more facts about the horrific murder of a young school teacher in Danvers, Mass. come out, one has to wonder if script writers are already pounding their keys for a film about possession that will be loosely based on this case.

Of course, in the film, the actual Black 14-year-old killer will be cast as White and his actual White victim will be cast as Black. You know how that goes.

Danvers, as many do not know, was previously called Salem Village, and it was there that the Witch hysteria began and where it mostly played out. Today, tourists visit the adjacent city of  Salem, which has built a tourist trade on its name, but many people never realize that they're actually one town away from where most things actually happened.

WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE SUSPENSION OF THE TWO EMPLOYEES?

It seems to us the investigation is taking too long.  Our guess, and that's all that it is, because we have no inside information at all--is that nothing criminal was done, but maybe (we're guessing, remember) the duo had to cut some bureaucratic red tape to get the event put together on a relatively short notice.

Folks, there are doers and there are talkers, and doers do and get things done, while talkers never quit talking about what they're going to do--someday, maybe--but they seldom accomplish anything meaningful because they close the to do loop by talking instead of actually doing.

Doers are focused on results, talkers are focused on process.  We've had too many talkers and too few doers in our local government over the past years, and many of us are pleased to see that the present Council majority is more focused on doing, rather than talking, and is imparting this attitude to City employees.

Can one make some mistakes by doing?  Of course.  But, at least there's something to correct.  If you don't do, you won't make any mistakes but you will have accomplished nothing.

It's nice to see the two top leaders in our city in their respective areas pen a column that punctures the miasma of misinformation, lefty political posturing, name calling and lies being floated all around this city by the haters of the good Council members.

There are two views about how you should react to negative crap being put out about you. The first view holds that you should just remain silent and above the fray.  The second says that you should confront it immediately and speak truth to lies.

Both ways are appropriate in different cases, but the stench in Costa Mesa from the lefties, some union shills, some uniform groupies, some employees and former employees, some individuals jockeying to run for office, along with assorted cranks who like to join noisy crowds where their mental deficiencies and neuroses get them mistaken for true believers in the cause, is now so toxic and causes so much confusion among the public that confronting the hate and lies with truth is the right thing to do right now.

We'd like to see more such columns from Messrs. Hatch and Gazsi and perhaps from other high ranking folks in City Hall and in the CMPD.

We especially think Chief Gazsi's views on matters relating to the CMPD are especially important, since this is one of the prime areas where misinformation seems to either be coming from or to be focused on.

It is time to confront the lies and liars and the haters and malcontents with the truth before their lies and hatred take on more of a life of their own.

COSTA MESA NAMES DAN STEFANO AS NEW FIRE CHIEF

Below is the press release from City Hall.

We see that Mr. Stefano says he looks forward to being a "member of the Costa Mesa family."

Well, to be a member of the Costa Mesa family, you actually have to live in Costa Mesa, and the press release is silent as to where the new chief lives.  Our guess is that means he doesn't live here.  

The CM PRESS position is that when well paid, high level people are hired by the City, they should move here if they don't already live here.

Dan Stefano, fire marshal and division chief for the Laguna Beach Fire Department, has been named Costa Mesa fire chief, City CEO Tom Hatch announced Monday.

Stefano, who served with the Laguna Beach Fire Department for 18 years, will start work in Costa Mesa within the next few weeks upon completion of the city’s background check.

“I am honored and excited to join the Costa Mesa Fire Department, which has a storied wealth of impressive history,” Stefano said. “I have been extraordinarily fortunate to work with some of the best in the business in Laguna Beach and now look forward to start the next chapter as a member of the Costa Mesa family and the stellar professionals of Costa Mesa Fire Department. This is a special city and I am also looking forward to working with CEO Tom Hatch and his talented executive team in serving the community on all levels.”

Beginning as a reserve firefighter, Stefano worked his way through the ranks of the Laguna Beach Fire Department, becoming a fire captain in 2001, acting fire battalion chief in 2006, and fire division chief in 2010, when he also began serving as acting fire chief. In 2012, he was promoted to fire marshal/division chief.

Stefano—who has a master’s degree in public policy and administration from California State University, Long Beach—also serves on a number of national, state and local firefighter organizations, including National Fire Protection Assn. and the California Fire Chiefs Assn.

Stefano, 45, is married to Michelle (a first-grade teacher in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District), and the couple has three daughters (Sofia, Siena and Sicily). He volunteers with a variety of community nonprofit groups, including Our Lady Queen of Angeles School, Newport-Mesa Girls Softball, American Youth Soccer Organization, Firefighters Quest for Burn Survivors and Project Cuddle.

Stefano will replace interim Fire Chief Fred Seguin, who will remain in fire administration.

“First, my sincere thanks to Fred Seguin who did an outstanding job as interim chief,” said City CEO Tom Hatch. “He provided the city a valuable service and will continue to do so as one of our Fire Department leaders. There are additional comments under Epperson's apology, and it sounds like a couple of folks understand a little about the law in this regard.

One woman calls others names and essentially dares them to sue her.  She apparently understands the difference between expressing an opinion and making a false assertion of fact. And there are some hints, maybe, that a person or two might understand the concepts of  "public figures," and "malice."

We'll have to see how this all plays out, and the results of the investigation of the two employees put on leave by the City may tilt things one way or the other.

MARINE CORPS COMMANDANT WANTS MARINES TO GET SQUARED AWAY

The problem is that you don't always get the best possible Marine recruits when you're trying to keep the Corps at its present size of around 200,000.  That's why the CM PRESS has been in favor of cutting back the size of the Corps to around 175,000.  And, the Corps really needs to find a way to keep women out of combat and not accept gays.  Women and gays who want to serve, have plenty of opportunities in the other services.

The reputations and good names of the people and firms named in the original column are at risk.

Even though the Pilot ran the massive correction after the column, some readers apparently don't know whether to believe the original column or the correction.

For example, here's a comment from Eleanor Egan below Epperson's column and the correction in the Daily Pilot: "Having no personal knowledge of the matter, I don't know whether to believe the original version or someone's anonymous 'correction.'"

Ms. Egan may not be alone in her confusion, and the Pilot should clear things up. And, it should do so quickly and by correcting the record in as prominent a manner as was given to Epperson's column; not just by publishing, as it did, a massive footnote following his column.

MORE ON THE EPPERSON COLUMN WITH ALL THE CORRECTIONS

As we indicated yesterday, former CMPD cop Clay Epperson's above linked column in the Daily Pilot has an astounding 10 lines of corrections added after the column.  We can't recall ever seeing so many corrections for a short column in any publication. Most corrections you'll see in publications involve correcting a misspelled name or some other harmless error.

Epperson is described at the bottom of his column this way:  "CLAY EPPERSON is a retired Costa Mesa police lieutenant."   This, of course, may cause some readers to consider the column more authoritative than one from an ordinary citizen who is not a retired police lieutenant. 

Here's a list of the names of the people and organizations who had things written about them by Epperson and which were then corrected in the 10 line correction following the column:

[For the Record, 6:13 p.m., Oct. 16: An early version of this commentary incorrectly identified city Public Affairs Director Dan Joyce as a member of the OC Marathon Board. He is not on the board, nor is he affiliated with the marathon as an upaid volunteer. The piece also misstated that he was "hand-picked by the City Council majority" for his job. In fact, he was first hired by the city CEO's office, not the City Council, in 2011. In addition, the piece alleged the council majority approved a no-bid contract for the 60th Anniversary party. In fact, the City Council as a whole approved $125,000 of city money toward the entire event, not just the portion that went to KB Event Management. Also, an assertion that Baugh's company donated $8,000 to the marathon was incorrect. The marathon foundation was compensated $5,000 to apply for a liquor license for the event; the remaining $3,000 was donated from TasteFest to the marthon's children's program.]

The race of the attackers is not revealed in the above video or story, but at least one of the commenters may have it right when he/she writes that if it had been White teens attacking the girl, their race would have been given.

One of the irritating things about the girl and her father is that they both make PC comments about not knowing why she was attacked.  This is what we often hear when Blacks attack Whites--the Whites are either truly stupid and don't realize they were targeted because of their skin color, or they're afraid they'll be called racists for identifying the attackers as Black.

FORMER CMPD COP CLAY EPPERSON APPARENTLY GETS A LOT OF FACTS WRONG

Be sure to read Epperson's column linked to above, but also be doubly sure to read all the corrections at the end of the column that were belatedly made by the Pilot.

We say "belatedly," because a column with so many apparent factual errors shouldn't have been published. But since it was published, the Pilot should also put all the corrections at the top of the column in a typeface as large as the title of the column.

There are an astounding ten lines of corrections for a very short column.

LE PEN:  EU WILL COLLAPSE LIKE SOVIET UNION

She wants to return sovereignty to European nations.

The EU sounded good at first: sort of a United States of Europe, but the Europeans soon found out as we have learned in the U.S., that once you centralize power in a central body, the individual states soon lose their sovereignty and the central body becomes dictatorial and tries to force a one size fits all value system on all states and all residents.

We just got a message from Costa Mesa City Hall that Costa Mesa has been named one of the 100 best cities in which to live.

Ah, we came in 99.

Also, some of the other listings are suspect, and make us wonder about the selection process. If we have time, and aren't too bored by doing so, we may update this with more details. Nah, we won't do that.  We're already bored by this news.

COUNCIL REJECTS REHEARING ON TURNAROUND ON PACIFIC AVENUE

The request for a rehearing was filed by Councilperson Sandy Genis, so we expected her to show up at the meeting with her ducks in a row to make a persuasive argument for such a rehearing.

Instead, she sounded scatterbrained and disorganized and couldn't seem to present her case in any sort of cogent and focused  fashion. She just rambled on and on all over the place with a disjointed presentation that made little sense.

Genis is a bright person, so maybe she was just having an off day, or perhaps her mind was otherwise occupied.

Notwithstanding the above, we do think enough new information was presented to have justified a rehearing, once one picked through all the rambling verbiage to find this new information, but these things are always judgment calls on the part of the individual Council members, and the majority ruled against a rehearing.

One has to wonder, though, if the Council might have ruled for a rehearing, if many of those in the public who did want a rehearing weren't the same people who constantly attack and berate the majority on the Council at just about every meeting and in newspaper letters and comments.

You certainly don't make friends and influence people on the Council by constantly sniping at them and calling them names.

TEEN GIRL TRIES TO TAKE CMPD OFFICER'S HANDGUN DURING SCUFFLE

Two girls aged 15 and 16 along with two boys aged 14 and 15 were caught by store personnel while trying to steal liquor from the Ralph's on E. 17th Street at around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Then it got more serious.

After a Costa Mesa police officer arrived on the scene, there was a scuffle and the 16-year-old girl allegedly tried to remove the officer's handgun from its holster, but was prevented from doing so by an off duty OC Sheriff's deputy who happened to be in the store.  At some point during the incident, the 15-year-old boy punched the CMPD officer in the face causing bruising and a gash that required stitches.

All four teens were arrested and were taken to the Costa Mesa jail and then to juvenile hall.  The three older teens are all from Costa Mesa and the 14-year-old boy is from Newport Beach.

The police press release on the incident is silent as to the race/ethnicity or possible gang affiliation of the teens, but this doesn't sound typical of  little Johnny and Jane from down the block.
