A Reader Wants To Buy A Home in Costa Mesa

Dear CM PRESS:

I'm a long time reader of the CM PRESS and a big supporter of improving Costa Mesa. I'm not a real estate agent. I'm looking for a home to buy in Costa Mesa to live in--my first--Westside is fine, but it doesn't have to be there. I'm pre-qualfied near $400,000. Single family with two or three bedrooms and two bathrooms would be ideal. But I'm flexible. Maybe if any of your other readers are thinking of selling they can pass on their phone number or email address to you and you can pass it on to me so I can contact them. I prefer to buy directly from a seller if possible.

A Reader

CM PRESS RESPONDS: We're always happy to help with home ownership in Costa Mesa. If any readers know of anything, they can post a confidential reply to the CM PRESS by using our regular post function on this blog, and we'll make sure we don't publicly post it. We'll pass it on privately to A Reader, and to no one else. We know who A Reader is, and he's legit and plans to live in what he buys. He's not an investor.

Paper: Time to Admit Obamanomics Has Failed
Link

Of course it failed. It was a ponzi scheme that failed to address the structural problems with the U.S. economy and simply printed money.

The economy obeys natural laws of existence. There must be competition. Some do well, and some don't.

The U.S. needs to start making things again. We need factories. We need backyard inventors. We need to start working with our hands again instead of just being middlemen and pencil pushers. We need government to get out of our way. And, we need to understand that the whole planet can't be artificially made prosperous.

Right now, China is doing what the U.S. once did, and that's why it's surging ahead of us.

Is Something Wrong At the Daily Pilot?

Here it is Monday, August 9, 9:15 a.m. and the Daily Pilot still hasn't published the list.

Here again is the list of candidates for the two seats up for election.

The Three Local Governments of Costa Mesa (That you're paying for)

Just to be clear on what we wrote in Issue # 219, the citizens of Costa Mesa are supporting three separate local governments.

The Costa Mesa City government LINK
The Costa Mesa Sanitary District LINK
The Mesa Consolidated Water District LINK

Each of the above is a fully functioning government with its own buildings, personnel, elected officials, etc.

Wouldn't it be better if the Costa Mesa Sanitary District and the Mesa Consolidated Water District were folded into the Costa Mesa City government as is the case in many other cities such as Newport Beach? Wouldn't we save some money by not having three sets of elected officials and three sets of administrators and all the rest?

60,000 ANCHOR BABIES ARE BORN EACH YEAR... JUST IN TEXAS!
# # #
Total Compensation Should Be Published
Link (fixed)
QUICK SYNOPSIS: Jim Righeimer says that more than salaries need to be published.

In addition, the CM PRESS says that citizens need to be aware that there are actually three separate local government bodies in Costa Mesa, all taking our money, not just one local government body as in many other cities, and each of the three government bodies has five elected members and staff that we are paying for.

Our view: Costa Mesa should follow the Newport Beach model and roll it's two other government bodies into the regular City government and have our five City Council members run everything as the City Council members in Newport do. This would provide economy of scale and avoid duplicate expenses.

VERBOSE VERSION: Jim Righeimer, one of the two good-for-Costa Mesa City Council candidates this year (the other good-for-Costa Mesa City Council candidate is Wendy Leece), has a nice letter in the Daily Pilot today that you can read at the above link.

In essence, what Righeimer correctly points out is the fact that the public can be fooled if only the City employee salaries are made public as some cities, including Costa Mesa, are now saying they'll do.

Righeimer writes: "In addition to salary, you need overtime, vacation pay, sick pay, certificate pay, health benefits taken in cash, miscellaneous pay, the portion of pension contribution that the city pays, and the employees' portion of pension contributions that is also paid for by the city. You might be surprised to see how many different forms of compensation a city employee might have."

But, There's Even More To This In Costa Mesa Than Many Citizens are Aware of...
What about the Costa Mesa Consolidated Water District and the Costa Mesa Sanitary District? Hmmmmm?

What many citizens of Costa Mesa aren't fully aware of is the fact that, unlike many cities, Costa Mesa has split off its water supply and trash/sewer functions to two separate special districts that each have five elected board members, large support staffs and their own facilities, vehicles, etc. that are paid for by citizens.

Some citizens believe that Costa Mesa's water supply and trash functions should be rolled into Costa Mesa's city government (as they are with many other cities including Newport Beach) to avoid duplication and save money for citizens.

Take the Costa Mesa Sanitary District (San District), for example. A couple of years ago it bought its own building on W. 19th Street across from the DMV.

The five San District board members (equivalent to our five City Council members) meet on the fourth Thursday of every month to discuss business.

The public can attend the San District meetings, but when the CM PRESS has attended, we've usually been the only public there. Which is probably a good thing, because the room where they meet is tiny and is mostly filled by the board members and staff.

In other words, if we hadn't just told you that these meetings are public and if you had shown up at the San District building to attend a meeting, you might have looked at the tiny meeting room and felt like the meetings really weren't public even though you're paying the salaries and for the building, etc.

The five San District board members get paid $221.00 per meeting. You may say that doesn't sound too bad. After all, they only have one regular meeting a month.

Not so fast! According to our source, the San District also has up to eleven other meetings a month and some of those are reportedly just a few minutes long. And, yup, the members each get paid $221.00 for each of those meeting also.

So, (counting toes now and making some reasonable assumptions), twelve meetings at $221.00 each equals $2,652.00 per member per month times 5 members equals $13,260.00 per month just in salaries and just to the board members. And, this doesn't include various other things such as health benefits, etc.

We'd like to see the Costa Mesa Consolidated Water District and also the Costa Mesa Sanitary District publish all their salaries, benefits, etc. We'll bet, as Jim Righeimer suggested relative to City salaries, benefits, etc. that you'll be surprised. And, not in a good way.

We'll try to get further confirmation of the above this week, and also more information from the Water District.

Jim Righeimer is to be applauded for writing his letter. This is the kind of person we need on the Costa Mesa City Council.

Costa Mesa is certainly not as bad as Bell, but the CM PRESS has long believed that a lot of our tax money is being wasted. We've reported on it over the years, but most people are just too busy with their daily lives to get involved and press for fiscal responsibility.

Hopefully, Mr. Righeimer will be talking out more about this as the campaign for City Council unfolds.

It's OUR damn money, and it's OUR damn City. We have a right to know what's going on and we have a right to demand that things be run right and in a fiscally responsible manner.

Oh, one last thing. When you see Costa Mesa's City budget each year, you can't directly compare it to cities such as Newport Beach, because while Newport shows its expenses for its water delivery and trash/sewer functions in its City budget (since those functions are part of the City and are controlled by the City Council), Costa Mesa does not.

The result of this is that the cost of running Costa Mesa appears on the City budget lower than it actually is. To get the true cost of running Costa Mesa, you have to add in the San District and Water District's budgets.

WENDY LEECE
JAMES RIGHEIMER
Christopher M. McEvoy
Chad Petschl

Scientists Discover that Sea Sponges Share About 70% Of Genes With Humans
Link

Actually, all life that we know about has some percentage of genes in common with humans. That's because all life on Earth started with those first chemicals that formed DNA (which produces the genes).

Once DNA was formed, it took off like crazy and became like a perpetual motion machine that was charged with the task of filling the planet with versions of itself.

To do this, it endlessly started expanding while mutating and adapting to make all the life that we know about. And in all the so-called variety of life that we see--at the core of all life--sits DNA and the genes it produces.

Again, that's why we share our genes with all the other organisms on the planet. We all come from the same original DNA molecule.

We think it's even worse than Noonan suggests.

In America, we've elected an anti-white president who is incompetent and who believes that the whole country should be managed from Washington in a sort of re-clothing of mostly discredited Marxist ideas.

It's as though we're all living in different units in a 50 unit apartment building and Obama and his gang are sitting out in a separate building miles away controlling the thermostats in each of the units, deciding when the lights should go out at night, deciding how many toilet paper rolls should go into each unit and on and on.

And, when our individual units are burglarized, Obama tells us we can't capture the burglars because that's the job of the feds and if they don't want to capture the burglars, they won't.

Don't try to tell us that America isn't on the wrong track.

Calderon: Drug Cartels Trying To Replace Government
Link
Well of course they are. They're more effective and efficient than the regular government, and they have more sway with the ordinary working people of Mexico than the corrupt and bloated government full of rich out-of-touch feather-their-own-nests politicians (which makes the Mexican government much like the federal U.S. government).

Our guess is that the cartels will become the government of Mexico over the next few years. They'll do it by more directly electing their own people to office to give the whole thing legitimacy or, failing that, they'll do it via a coup.

Either way, once in full power, they'll talk about eradicating drug gangs (read drug gangs that aren't part of their drug gang) and they'll buy politicians in the U.S. to support them and who will tell the American people that the new government is saintly and a good friend of the U.S.

Joe Bell Has Another Column in the Daily Pilot About the Ever Growing JWA
Link
Unfortunately, those who are most affected by JWA (such as Bell) seem to be going in the wrong direction to stop the airport's growth. They keep asking for flight and hour curbs. They'll never win doing this.

What needs to be done (we write for the umpteenth time) is to have an alternative airport built on a tiny portion of Camp Pendleton where the planes can take off over the ocean. This is doable and would take the pressure off JWA.

We won't go into all the details here of why our idea makes perfect sense, but if you're interested, use the search feature on this blog and read some of our earlier columns on the subject where we compare the sizes of airports, the land available, etc.

John & Ken Get Stupid
Link
These guys are good on a lot of issues, but their recent attacks on Meg Whitman are just plain stupid.

And, here's why. Either Meg Whitman or Gerry Brown is going to be the next governor of California. It's one or the other.

Neither one is great shakes, but we're going to end up with one of them. There is no other realistic choice. This being the case, voters should pick the lesser of the two evils.
In our view, Meg Whitman is the lesser of the two evils.

Constantly attacking her as John and Ken do, might help defeat her and the result will be that we'll end up with Brown.

Also, sitting out the election, as some of the callers to the John and Ken program say they'll do, is just dumb.
There's going to be a new governor next year. Make the best choice.

Screwball Lefties Now Attack Mansoor Because He Finds His Main Identity as an "American"

It's no secret that Allan Mansoor's father is from Egypt and his mother from Sweden. It's also no secret that Mansoor apparently finds little in the way of his personal identity from either of those nations/cultures/ethnicities and thinks of himself as an un-hyphenated "American."

Now, the American haters (read "White" haters) and Latino racists who usually spend their time in hate-fests against European-Americans (read Whites), are twisting themselves into pretzels as they attack Mansoor because Mansoor doesn't identify with the Egyptian culture of his father (of course, as already mentioned, it doesn't seem that Mansoor identifies much with the Swedish culture of his mother, either, but the haters don't mention that very much).

Some of these loons are even suggesting, from one side of their mouths, that Mansoor is some sort of Muslim stealth candidate (he's actually a Christian, and we think a born again one at that),while from the other side they say he's a self-hater because he doesn't spend his days being an Arab.

Yes, we know it's nutty. But these nutcases are libs and most are Democrats who support open borders and illegal aliens. Their real problem with Mansoor is that he's a conservative Republican who wants strong borders and our immigration laws enforced.

Some of these low I.Q. types then say that, by golly, they're going to vote for Mansoor's opponent Phu Nguyen because at least Nguyen doesn't try to hide that he's Vietnamese (how do you hide that, even if you wanted to?).

Where's the surprise in their vote choice? Nguyen is a liberal Democrat just like them. They'll vote for him no matter what. In fact, most Latino racists would vote for any open borders liberal Democrat of any ethnicity if there isn't a Latino in the race, and in this one there isn't a Latino running.

You see, there's a pecking order with Latino racists. Their first choice is almost any fellow Latino (who isn't off the Latino reservation). Then, if there is no Latino in the race, they'll vote for any non-White. If there is no Latino and no non-White in the race, they'll vote (reluctantly) for a liberal White candidate.

So, what you have is the bizarre situation where the mostly Latino racists, who hate Whites and reflexively call any Whites with any sense of racial/ethnic pride "racists," attacking Mansoor because Mansoor doesn't show any sense of racial/ethnic pride in having an Egyptian father and who wants to just be an American.

Huh? Right. Haters and bigots are stupid, by definition.

As far as we can tell, Mansoor is staking his political future on his positions, not on his ancestry. Remember how that always used to be the case in the U.S.?

New Way to Fool White Folks About Who Is Committing Violent Street Crimes?

The other day, a woman was attacked and pistol whipped in Corona Del Mar. The press described the suspect as Latino OR Italian.

Today, a woman was stabbed and carjacked in Orange. The press is describing the suspect as Latino or Middle Eastern.

We wonder, is the press trying to put doubts in your mind about all the violent street crimes that are committed by Latinos--and especially Latinos who are illegal aliens or who have some nexus with illegal aliens (such as being the anchor babies of illegal aliens)?

PR agents often work this way to help a client. If they can't kill a story or bury it where no one will see it, they'll try to cast doubt in the minds of the public about something that their client is accused of doing.

So, are there Latinos, say in politics, putting pressure on the press to now start offering up swarthy alternatives to "It was a Latino who did it"?

He's right. But, this isn't the way this country is supposed to be run. The individual states are supposed to have more power than they do now. The nation would be stronger if the states did have more power.

With the present all powerful federal government calling most of the shots in D.C., individual states rise and fall on the decisions of a few people who are often far removed from the states.

Take various environmental, business and wage laws for example. Wouldn't we be better off if we didn't have centralized control over such things coming from D.C.? If an individual state had more control over what goes on in the state, as was once the case, we'd find nature's laws about competition and the struggle for survival playing out with whole states. Not only would we have entrepreneurial individuals, we'd have entrepreneurial states.

State A, for example, might get rid of a slew of regulations so its residents could build new factories. This would draw workers to the state and the state might prosper. If it didn't prosper, then it would quickly change to something that would make it prosper.

State B, might want to have very strict regulations on business. If it turned out that this didn't help State B prosper, it would quickly adapt to something that did help it prosper.

In other words, by returning power to the states, the states would start diverging from each other in the way that they thought was best for the citizens of the states and citizens of any state would move to states where they would prosper individually.

In other words, the natural order would start to be restored for the benefit of all citizens and the nation as a whole simply by giving the states the freedom to choose their own paths.

Furthermore, some employees of these charities--who receive your tax money--then use some of their private time and money to support political causes and candidates that help keep Costa Mesa a secret sanctuary city where illegal aliens get free bags of groceries, rent payments, utility bill payments, free medical and dental care and much more.

The above two quotes are from an OC REGISTER article [HERE] about the possibility of Allan Mansoor losing his bid for the Assembly because the many Vietnamese voters in the 68th
Assembly District, who normally vote Republican, may vote Democrat simply because Mansoor isn't Vietnamese and his Democrat opponent is.

Actually, if enough White voters vote, and if Whites were to follow the "one of their own" type of thinking that Vietnamese, Latinos, Blacks and most other groups seem to follow and which seems to be thought of as a virtue in their cases but "racism" when Whites do it, Mansoor would easily win. Check out the demographics of the district HERE.

And, why is it that Whites are always supposed to be blind to race and even vote for the non-White to demonstrate that they are aracial?

If Whites vote for a Latino for the legislature, the first thing that person does when he takes office is join the Latino Caucus and work for Latino issues which are sometimes antagonistic to White issues; such as border enforcement, rule of law cities, etc. Same thing with voting for a Black, a Pacific Islander, et. al. Meanwhile, there is no White caucus to push White issues that are especially important to Whites.

Isn't it about time for Whites to vote in their best interests and stop apologizing for being White?
