Why Seattle? No doubt it's because a black suspect ambushed and killed four white cops while they were sitting in a coffee shop in that city late last year. This suspect was later killed. Note the mark below the suspect's left eye--a tattoo or a mole? Link

Blacks lack the white skin mutation that allows whites to make more Vitamin D.

Here's more about this white skin mutation:

White skin--A mutation that occurred in Europe to adapt the people there so their skin would let in more of the dim European sunlight to produce more Vitamin D than darker skin colors.

It gave a survival advantage to those with the mutation, in that with more Vitamin D, those with the mutation didn't get the bone softening disease rickets and lived longer to produce more children who also carried the mutation. In time, the white skin mutation spread throughout Europe.

Scientists now believe that a tiny mutation in gene slc24a5, located on the long leg of chromosome 15 at position 21.1, started in the few people who left Africa and headed into Europe about 20,000--50,000 years ago was a major reason for the emergence of white skin.

This mutation became the norm in Europe 5,300 to 12,000 years ago. This gene has primary alleles that differ in only one nucleotide, changing the 111th amino acid from alanine to threonine. In White European descended peoples, the threonine form is found in from 98.7% to 100% of the population while in Africans, East Asians and American Indians from 93% to 100% of the populations have the alanine form.

What? You mean different breeds of dogs have different levels of intelligence, different physical characteristics, different temperaments, etc.?

Hey, wait a minute. Don't all dogs bleed red blood? And isn't "breed" in dogs, the same as "race" in humans and "variety" in plants?

Didn't all dogs come from wolves originally? If so, they must all be the same, right? Wrong. Nature constantly tinkers with DNA and this causes differences in animals of the same species and causes branchings from the original type (in this case wolves). It works the same with humans.

All you lefties be sure to put your purse pooches down for a minute and write Wikipedia and protest the racist article about dog differences.

You see, people who read about dog differences might realize that the laws of nature also apply to humans and they might understand that different "breeds"of humans have different levels of intelligence, different physical characteristics, different temperaments, etc.

On January 6, the Daily Pilot ran "An illegal immigrant's story." There are no comments from readers after the article. This is the one we found when we went to the Pilot tonight. Link

Then, on January 7, the Pilot ran the same story as "She has a sense of purpose." This one has reader comments.

This January 7 version seems to have disappeared, but we found it via the Pilot's search engine. Link

Here's a sentence from both versions:

TRIVIA ALERT: I've never seen the presses at the LA TIMES, but when I worked for the New York Times at their headquarters in Manhattan I was given a tour of the building. The press room was in the deepest basement and the gigantic presses were said to be anchored to the bedrock so their vibrations wouldn't shake the building down. The noise was deafening.

Hey, Segerstrom Company, how about some upscale homes next to the LA TIMES building now that the noise has gone away? Costa Mesa needs such homes as bait to attract upwardly mobile people to the city instead of seeing them flee because of the slums that the stupid City Council won't thin out and the charities that serve illegal aliens that the Council keeps funding; which lead to a downward spiral and the resulting high crime rate and failing schools that we see in Costa Mesa.

GUV GETS IT WRONG
In his state of the state message yesterday, Governor Schwarzenegger said that he was going to pump money into training for jobs.

What jobs? There aren't any.


It's not training that is needed, but jobs themselves.


Jobs are created when business expands. Business expands when it is let loose. California has become very business unfriendly. We need to reindustrialize the state. We need to give tax breaks to businesses. We need to get rid of lots of lousy regulations and regulators. We need to free business from the chains put on it.


California, with our mild climate, should be booming.

It's not.

Say you want to open a new car (or whatever) factory. Wouldn't you want it to be where you're not fighting cold weather and snow? And, wouldn't you want it where there's a large population? Wouldn't you like to be near the ocean for sending your product overseas? California is a natural choice. Unfortunately, the state screws so many ways with businesses, that you'll decide to go elsewhere. That's what is happening now.

PHONY VAN TRAN STILL HASN'T ENDORSED MANSOOR
Assemblyman Van Tran, who represents Costa Mesa in the state assembly, is the only notable Republican that we can think of who still hasn't endorsed Allan Mansoor for Van Tran's termed out seat.

Our guess is that if Mansoor were Vietnamese, Van Tran would have been one of the first to endorse him.

Our further guess is that the Republican bigs also get what's going on but are still voicing (soft) support for Van Tran in his run against Loretta Sanchez, because he's the only game in town in that race for the GOP.

Bids are to be in by Friday. As we've previously written, the best chance of stopping the sale will be if all the bids are too low or have too many contingencies.

Having our pols go to Sacramento was not a wasted trip, however, because if the bids are too low or have too many contingencies, the Governor has an easy out by rejecting all of them and saying he's now decided that the asset is too valuable to Orange County so he won't be looking for any more bids. We don't think the probability of it going this way is very high, but it's possible.

One little quirk about the meeting today, as reported in the OCR, was that the Guv's staff apparently saw a possible Brown Act problem so only Mansoor and Foley and the City Manager met with the Governor and Leece was left outside. This was the right choice of the two since Mansoor, as mayor, should be included, and he's a Republican and a conservative, and Foley, as a Democrat and a liberal, made the sit-down bipartisan.

COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE STARTING TO CRASH

Shopping centers that are poorly sited, poorly planned or which have a poor tenant mix will be first to go under.

The center in the above linked story is in Huntington Beach, but it should send shivers down the spines of center owners in other cities as well because it was a major supermarket center--these usually have staying power because the suits in charge generally check everything about a location before deciding to open a store there.

Costa Mesa has some marginal retail centers in our city as well. But, you probably already knew that.
