Synopsis: On September 2nd, 2009 at about 7:15 A.M., the victim was inside her
apartment when she heard a sound outside her open window. As the
victim approached her window to investigate, a male Hispanic
appeared from the lower left of her window. The suspect immediately
fled the scene in an unknown direction.
A search of the area was conducted with negative results.
Detectives are looking into prior cases occurring in the immediate area
to determine if they are related.

An odd thing about this photo:

As far as we know, this photo hasn't been debunked.

The CM PRESS interviewed a person some years ago who claimed to have seen a large, fast moving cigar shaped object--like the one in the photo--flying from the direction of Mt.Washington and then over Massachusetts near the New Hampshire border and finally out over the Atlantic where he lost sight of it. Neither the CM PRESS nor, as far as we know, the person being interviewed were aware of the 1870 photo at that time.

PLANNING COMMISSIONER SAYS BUY LOCALLY

Colin McCarthy has a column in the almost daily Daily Pilot today in which he encourages Costa Mesans to buy locally. LINK

The CM PRESS agrees with this sentiment. In fact, we've believed in this for so long that we've often gone to City Council meetings to berate the Council for spending millions of dollars to buy goods and services outside of Costa Mesa instead of from local sources.

We've even encouraged the Council to find ways to encourage our local businesses to be more competitive on their bids so they get the business.

The other thing we've tried to encourage the Council to do is hire locally. Most of our highest paid City employees--firefighters and police officers--don't live in Costa Mesa. Every week, they take millions of dollars back to the cities where they do live. That's also where they spend the money we're paying them.

So, while we agree with McCarthy, we'd also like to see him step up and encourage the City to buy and hire locally. Maybe if we have enough voices calling for this, we'll see some changes.

On 9/7/09 My kids and I rode our bikes to the beach via the bike trail along the Santa Ana river. On the way through canyon park we saw one group (2 adults, 2 kids) destroying a park monument and a couple doing drugs at a park bench (appeared to be meth). On our way back, we saw a man standing at the edge of the bike trail and entrance to the Talbert Nature Preserve. He was asking joggers and bicyclists for money. He was also making bizarre comments about following women joggers. As we passed he asked us for money. After stating we didn't have any he became insistent that we give him one of the bodyboards we were carrying. He then started following us through the Talbert Nature Preserve so we called the police. You might want to warn your readers to use caution when traveling though those areas.

THE CM PRESS COMMENTS: The homeless people in the park, as well as illegal aliens and gangs, are being drawn to Costa Mesa because of the likes of Katrina Foley and Gary Monahan as well as by the highly paid charity industry leaders who think being falsely and publicly compassionate to those who aren't citizens of this city, while harming citizens, is swell.

Maybe the people in the park who were bothering you were waiting for Foley to come give them some more free pancakes so she can get her photo in the paper again.

Or, maybe they were waiting to see if Old Lefty Foley and her new best friend New Lefty Monahan can get another Councilmember to vote with them on the 15th to pick our pockets to give these people more freebies.

WE HAD A DREAM...

As we were leaving City Hall last week, we found two wallets on the ground. One belonged to Katrina Foley and the other to Gary Monahan.

As you might expect, both wallets were bulging with money.

Now, we were going to leave the wallets there or possibly give them back to the lefty-duo. After all, the wallets and the money didn't belong to us.

But, gee, Costa Mesa has some illegal aliens who are having trouble paying their rent to remain in this city and might have to move back to Mexico or even Santa Ana, because living is cheaper in those places than Costa Mesa.

And, Foley did say that "they" live here and have their children in our schools and both she and Monahan indicated that if we didn't take money from the feds (that really belongs to tax payers) that someone else would take it.

So, using their compassionate logic, we took Katrina and Gary's wallets and gave all the money to a local charity that used a large part of it to pay the salaries and overhead of those in charge of the charities, and used what was left over to help illegal aliens stay in Costa Mesa instead of moving to where they can afford to live.

Oh, and we also gave their credit and debit cards to some illegal aliens so they can get other things they need to be comfortable in Costa Mesa. We figure that's okay, because Katrina and Gary can afford to pay off the bills the illegals run up just as the citizens of this city are paying in many ways for having Costa Mesa being run into the ground by the misplaced compassionate types and some of the cushy charities that seem to be the only businesses that are actually growing in Costa Mesa.

Meanwhile...

Gangs are growing in Costa Mesa. Violent street crime is growing. Student scores in the local schools are going down. Middle class citizens are leaving Costa Mesa so they don't get trapped in a new skid row that is aborning.

Gary and Katrina can't figure out why the positives are dropping and the negatives are growing in Costa Mesa, but they figure the way to solve our problems is to steal more money from citizens to subsidize illegal aliens to stay in Costa Mesa.

Odd isn't it? Every time we offer more freebies, more people show up to take the freebies.

Say, did we mention that Monahan and Foley are going to try to pick your pockets at the September 15, City Council meeting as they try to ram through taking your tax money to subsidize people to live in Costa Mesa who should be making life-style adjustments in this tough economy?

RADICAL VAN JONES GONE FROM OBAMA ADMINISTRATION

This is the guy who tried to get Glenn Beck fired at Fox and who organized a boycott of advertisers on Beck's show. It all backfired on Jones and public pressure for him to resign or be fired was just too much for the Obama administration. Meanwhile, Beck's viewership continues to climb. LINK

In our view, this is just the latest incident showing that people in this country are quickly moving past the era when any minority person could get away with anything because of racial Teflon and white guilt. We also think it's another sign that the Right is growing in the U.S. as it is in Europe.

One would have to be blind, deaf and dumb to not realize that there is an increasing militancy among the middle class and mostly middle class whites. Who would have thought that senior citizens would come out so strongly against Obamacare?

Town Hall meetings look and sound a little like liver spot versions of the anti-war protests of the '60's. And, the old geezers aren't acting their age--they're not just sitting there with their hands folded and with vacant smiles on their faces. They're yelling, they're interrupting elected officials and they're carrying signs.

Time will tell, but we may be in the midst of a genuine peaceful revolution that will have legs far beyond the Obamacare debate.

EDITORS AT ALMOST DAILY DAILY PILOT DON'T GET IT--UNABLE TO THINK ABSTRACT THOUGHTS; HELPING MAKE COSTA MESA A NEW SKID ROW

The almost daily Daily Pilot has another lefty editorial HERE and says that Costa Mesa has a "growing" homeless problem so the City Council should take HUD money to give to the homeless.

Yes, the Pilot actually said we have a "growing" homeless problem. So, at least the Pilot got one thing right.

We do have a growing homeless problem. But, the reason is not because we're not giving out freebies. In fact, the opposite is true.

The reality is that all living things seek comfort.

This means that all living things will gravitate to where they are comfortable. Feed pigeons in a park and in no time at all you'll have more pigeons than you can count, and their numbers will grow so long as you keep feeding them.

Stop feeding them and the pigeons will move away to where they can make a better living and find that comfort they seek.

If Costa Mesa is going to improve, the City is going to have to start acting more like cities that are considered by objective standards to be great places to live.

If we keep trying to be like skid row, we're going to succeed.

Yes, times are tough. We all know that. But, in tough times, people need to make adjustments to their lives.

If some illegal aliens can't afford to live in Costa Mesa, then they should move back to Mexico or even to Santa Ana. Living is much cheaper in both of those places.

At the last City Council meeting, and in support of taking the HUD money, lefty Katrina Foley mumbled that "they" have their children in our schools and "they" live in our neighborhoods, etc. Now, who do you suppose "they"are? Right.

Illegal aliens will get our tax money to be subsidized to stay in Costa Mesa if the City Council takes this HUD money. And, any legal citizens who get some of the money will also be subsidized to live where they probably can't afford to live right now. It's time to move to where living is cheaper.

It's time to take personal responsibility and not expect the government to give out freebies. Remember, too, the government doesn't have any money. The money it gives out is from us.

When this issue comes up for a vote at the September 15, City Council meeting we wouldn't be surprised if moving to the left Gary Monahan and long time lefty Katrina Foley have blond, blue-eyed citizens planted in the audience who will say that they need the money.

There won't be a suspected illegal alien in sight...not at the meeting. But, they'll be there when the money is handed out, if this passes.

Perry Valentine? Say, could that be the same Perry Valentine who used to work for the City of Costa Mesa and who tried to get on the Planning Commission (but failed to get appointed)?

Well, whether or not it's the same guy, the Perry Valentine who wrote the letter apparently didn't like our suggestion to thin out the slums in this city and put in pocket parks, and he doesn't mind folks from other cities coming here, as though they're visiting a Third World village, to hand out freebies to the poor natives huddled in their shanties in the middle of a garbage dump.

So, can we understand from this that this guy is happy with the slums and the fact that it's not Costa Mesa citizens going to Corona del Mar to hand out freebies to poor suspected illegal aliens there?

In fact, have you ever heard of Costa Mesa citizens going to any part of Newport Beach to give free pancakes to the homeless people, or free this and free that to all the people in need (read, suspected illegal aliens)? Of course you haven't. People in the Newport Beach government work hard to keep their city one of the nicest places in the world for the citizens who live there. Citizens? Remember them?

By the way, the Perry Valentine who used to work for the City of Costa Mesa doesn't live near the slums of Costa Mesa. He lives in College Park. That's also where former City Councilperson Linda Dixon lives.

Actually, Perry and Pam--say, can we call you PP?--thank you for your kind offer, but we spent lots of time in Beverly Hills. It's too far from the ocean for our tastes. Would it be too much to ask to have you change your fund a little to build us a new place on Costa Mesa's Westside Bluffs? Nothing too fancy. Just a nice sized loft with ocean views would be fine.

Maybe something like the Venice lofts in the picture above. We understand they have some pretty competent people in the development end of things at City Hall now, so we think we can get the above lofts approved without too much trouble. Oh, we'd like a corner loft, if it's not too much to ask.

In the popular mind, a "gadfly" is someone who shows up at every meeting and mouths off about everything from flying saucers in their backyard to how organic carrots will keep you from being, er, fat. That's not something we've ever done. The essence of "gadfly," again in the popular mind, is the often unconnected and kooky nature of their various statements before local government bodies.

The fact is that the CM PRESS started going to City Council meetings for two reasons: to report on what we see and hear (gee, that's like what newspapers are supposed to do), and to push the idea that Costa Mesa can be improved, along with our suggestions on how we believe this can be done. That's been our entire focus at every meeting we've attended. No flying saucers and no organic carrots...ah...but maybe someone over at the almost daily Daily Pilot could use a bushel or two of these.

We always ask: "Will this item before the City Council help improve Costa Mesa or will it harm it or will it just be neutral?"

Got it Bailey, or do you need more of an education on the meaning of words? Also, you might check your style manual to see if "gadfly," used as you do in your attempted smear, has been approved by Tribune.

FOLEY AND MONAHAN'S FREE MONEY (NO SUCH THING)

There is an attitude coming from Councilmembers Foley and Monahan (more from Foley, though) that money the City gets from the feds is free and that we should grab every cent possible.

Actually, it's not free. In the first place, it's our tax money and in the second place, it always comes back to us with strings attached that are not always in the best interests of the stable citizens of Costa Mesa.

Take the specific example of the "charity" money that the City applied for from HUD that was discussed at last night's meeting and which was put over to the Council's September 15, meeting.
This money that is supposed to help the homeless, will probably mostly go to help pay the rent of people who aren't in the country legally. So, it rewards law breakers and keeps the welcome mat out for them in this city. You see, HUD won't allow us to ask if people getting the money are here legally or not.

At last night's meeting, the CM PRESS told the Council that if we were on the Council we wouldn't vote to take this money. We pointed out that the report given to the Council by staff didn't tell the Council how our surrounding cities (especially our sister city Newport Beach) are handling this matter. Our guess is that Newport Beach sees the strings and doesn't want the money. We'll also guess that Santa Ana probably does want the money.

The question then becomes: Do the citizens of Costa Mesa want Costa Mesa to be more like Newport Beach or Santa Ana?

Newport Beach has almost no violent crime, and is considered one of the best places in the nation to live.

Santa Ana has almost daily reports of violent crimes and is considered one of the worst places in the nation to live.

Costa Mesa is right in the middle between those two cities. Do we want more of a Newport Beach influence or more of a Santa Ana influence?


Traditionally, Costa Mesa and Newport Beach have been closer than Costa Mesa and Santa Ana. Look no further than to the facts that Costa Mesa and Newport Beach share the same school district or that Costa Mesa shares some of those Pacific Ocean views with Newport Beach and has a surf industry and ambiance.

We at the CM PRESS vote for more of a Newport Beach influence. Thank you very much, and keep your free money with its strings in D.C.

Folks, there are people who want Costa Mesa to not only remain down-scale but to go even lower.

Many businesses in Costa Mesa don't want to say they're in Costa Mesa. It's bad for business. This Ducati dealership is just the latest example.

The attitude of some lefties seems to be that whatever isn't wanted in other cities is fine to put in Costa Mesa. We see that with all the massage parlors and with all the non-profits in this city.

It also seems that we have people working out of City Hall who just keep applying for federal grants that sound nice and compassionate, but which really just pay to keep people in the city who aren't even in the country legally. These grants act as magnets.

Did you feel pride in Costa Mesa when you read in the almost daily Daily Pilot the other day about people from Corona del Mar coming to Costa Mesa to hand out free back packs to the poor people of Costa Mesa?

How about the report about Councilmember Katrina Foley serving free pancakes to our growing homeless population. Did that make you feel good about Costa Mesa?

Were you surprised that Newport Beach is now sending us a bill because OUR homeless people are defecating on Newport Beach property?

We didn't feel pride. We were embarrassed that we're living in a City that is seen to be Third World and a place where people from our sister city of Newport Beach come to do their charity work as though they're travelling to some poor village in Mexico.

SOYLENT GREEN DEBUNKED? NOPE.

The almost daily Daily Pilot, being one of the local refuges of some lefty losers, had the editorial comment below about the demonstrations for and against Obamacare at Congressman Campbell's office yesterday. The Pilot's comments were more favorable to the Obamacare supporters. Surprised?

"Others [the anti-Obamacare folks] perpetuated ideas of the since-debunked 'death panels'...."

Hey, Pilotistas, the death panels have not been debunked.

They're part and parcel of Obamacare. No, they don't call them death panels and no one tells old geezers to go jump into the vat of Soylent Green, but there are calculations made about a geezer's value to society weighed against the cost of the medical care that is needed to keep the geezer alive.

It's like when you try to make a decision to fix up your old car or send it to the junk yard because it doesn't have too many more years of value to you.

Frankly, the death panels should consider denying Costa Mesa's Lonely Old man so much as a bandaid. That guy hasn't been worth anything to society since he was born and his already tenuous and nutcake grasp of reality hasn't gotten better with age.
