Meanwhile, in the Alternate Universe Costa Mesa we read something similar.

Alternate Costa Mesa has had a problem with pigeons all over Lyon's Park and the adjacent library property.

"We can't figure it out," said one pigeon feeder who travels to Costa Mesa from South County to practice her compassion.  "We keep feeding them and yet they always seem to be hungry the next day and there are always more of them day after day. It started out with one pigeon and now we have hundreds. The solution is to find more food, but these mean citizens of Costa Mesa are skinflints."

So, the City is now going to form a task force.

And, on the task force will be 12 pigeon feeders (most of whom don't live in Costa Mesa), 1 seller of pigeon food, 5 pigeons, and one pigeon doctor (who makes a handsome living healing the ever increasing flock).

The task force will work for the next 18 months trying to figure out why there are so many pigeons in the park and what the City can do to make them feel more loved and more comfortable.

The public is being kept in the dark about the stink-eye incident.  Why? 

Here's a press release sent out from the CMPD about the supposed investigation that was to take place in October.

October 19, 2010


In response to allegations of possible police misconduct made by Costa Mesa City Councilmember Eric Bever and another citizen, the city has retained an outside investigator so the matter may be reviewed independently of the police department. The investigation will focus on whether any police department rules, regulations or policies were violated. Should the investigation reveal any criminal activity, that information will be turned over to the appropriate prosecutor's office. The investigation will be conducted in accordance with the Peace Officer's Bill of Rights and the City's Personnel regulations as will any findings which may result.


Costa Mesa Chief of Police Christopher Shawkey said in a statement issued by his office, "While I certainly feel that the Professional Standards Unit within the police department would have provided a fair and objective review and investigation of the allegations, we recognize the need for independence of this investigation so all the parties involved, including members of the Costa Mesa Police Department and the citizens of Costa Mesa, have complete confidence in an impartial investigation."


Additional questions should be referred to the Police Chief's Office.

Why haven't we heard the results of this investigation?  What is being hidden from the public?

Do we have a gang of rogue cops within the CMPD who are riding roughshod over citizens' rights and are they being protected by some in City Hall? If not, then why the silence?

The good cops in the CMPD don't need to be painted with the broad brush of suspicion caused by what may be a few thugs.

Don't think this is just about a couple of cops giving a hard look at one of our elected officials and a citizen. 

There was a well-funded and well-organized attempt to stop the election of Jim Righeimer during the last election.  Thousands of dollars were  poured into that effort by unions.

Cops were pulling an expensive anti-Righeimer sign around the city. An independent expenditure front group was using money funneled to it by the cop union to buy signs and mail out election material in an attempt to defeat Righeimer. 

Reportedly, more than 800 of Righeimer's lawn signs disappeared, and citizens report seeing police cars near where some of those signs disappeared. 

There were also reports of police cars stopping in front of citizens' homes that had Righeimer signs on the lawns. What were the cops in those cars doing?  Were they taking pictures of the signs and the addresses?  Were they making a record of which citizens supported Righeimer, and marking them for harassment?

There was a report and a blurry film of someone stealing  a stack of Righeimer signs from outside of Mayor Monahan's restaurant where they were stacked up so customers could take them home.

It goes on and on.

The public has a right to know what's going on, and the many good cops in the CMPD need to have their reputations and respect restored. 

It's time for truth and transparency.

AMERICA PULLING THE PLUG ON THE TEVATRON

It can't really compete with the much larger LHC in Europe. 

The U.S. did have a plan to build a much larger particle collider in Texas that would have dwarfed the LHC, but this was scuttled several years ago.

As with manufacturing and the space program and so many other things in the multiculti U.S. we're seeing our nation taking a back seat to other nations in  basic science.

Are the best days of America behind us?  Has the recipe that made America great now been so screwed up that we will soon be joining the Third World, not just in cities such as Detroit, but nationwide?

THE SUPERINTENDENT HUBBARD MATTER EXPOSING (AGAIN) THE PRIVATE CLUB LIKE NATURE OF THE NMUSD

A couple of years ago when one of the NMUSD board members got a drunk driving citation, the NMUSD board closed ranks to try to protect him.

We thought that was a mistake and sent the wrong message to kids, especially since the board had been pushing a strong no alcohol and no drugs message to students.

So, at that time, we spoke out about the double standard and we even went to a board meeting and confronted the board and the member who got the citation.

One of the things that troubled us during that time was the in-group attitude that we saw from the board.  We got vibes that  the NMUSD board and staff seemed to think they were a private club.

Fast forward to 2010 and 2011: When it was first reported that  Superintendent Hubbard was in hot water over allegations of wrong doing from his last job in Beverly Hills, we saw the NMUSD board closing ranks to protect him as various members tried to minimize or explain away his legal problems.

Now in the last few days, and as reported first in the OC REGISTER and now picked up by the DAILY PILOT, there are a number of racy emails that have come to light between Hubbard and the woman also involved in the problems in Beverly Hills.

There aren't too many blue noses over here at the CM PRESS, but we think those emails are out of line in a professional setting and especially for school board employees and even more especially for someone in a top position who has some say in how tax money is used.  We  can see why the Beverly Hills School District is upset and wonder why the NMUSD isn't. (Actually, we don't wonder why--it's that private club thing.)

In the DAILY PILOT today, we read that NMUSD Board Member Martha Fluour has also received emails that to us seem to be unprofessional.

Here's what Fluor told the Daily Pilot:

"To be real honest, he has e-mailed me and said, 'love ya' and 'sweetheart' and 'hang in there,' and 'Thanks, babe,'" Fluor said. "So, you know, he's a very affectionate person and expresses himself and does say some witty things, and that's the type of relationship when you're working with a superintendent. You develop a bond of trust and closeness that's not necessarily sexual." Ah, yes, but haven't we read about similar comments leading to sexual harassment charges in various businesses and other entities? Maybe over at the NMUSD this goes on all the time, but we're not sure this is the best way to run a school district. It just seems a little too cozy.

Fluor also told the DAILY PILOT:  "The bottom line is they are consenting adults."   Ah, yes, but correct us if we're wrong; doesn't the issue up in Beverly Hills involve tax money going to Mr. Hubbard's consenting adult friend?

 GOVERNOR BROWN, THE BUDGET, SELF-RELIANCE, HAITI

One line struck us in the above linked LA TIMES article about Governor Jerry Brown's budget proposals: "Government will be closer to the people." [said Governor Brown]

Brown's idea is not a new one.  Many of us have been preaching it for years. Shrink government and have it close to the people where ideas of self-reliance and local volunteerism can be encouraged to replace many things the larger nanny government now does.

In Costa Mesa, we have many strong neighborhood associations.  These associations--mini-governments, really--can step up and help with many needs in their particular neighborhoods without having to rely on City Hall to do everything. 

We don't want to go too far afield with this idea of self-reliance and local volunteerism, but the situation in Haiti, which we have written about several times, comes to mind.

The 7.0 earthquake that we still read about every day in the bleeding heart press, hit Haiti on January 12, 2010. Even though millions of dollars and thousands of Great White Mothers and Great White Fathers have  poured into Haiti over the past year, the nation is still a shambles with disease and crime rampant.

What are we hearing from Haitians? They're complaining that the rest of the world isn't helping them enough.

They continue to live in rubble and tents instead of fixing things themselves. They're waiting for the nanny world to take care of them as though they're little children or abandoned stray kittens.

But if the nanny world does take care of them, and does everything for them, the nanny world will ask certain things--like the establishment of law and order.

And, when that happens, you can bet the Haitians will whine that the nanny world is imposing its will on them or is  treating them like slaves and that the "foreigners" and "white devils"should get out of Haiti.

There is a deeper philosophical issue here and it involves the nature of man and how he should view himself and the world around him.  This view seems to be largely missing from the way many Haitians see things.

This view is that each individual is responsible for himself or herself and must take care of himself or herself and be self-reliant.

This concept of personal responsibility and self-reliance then expands from the individual to close relatives, to the neighborhood, the city, the state and the nation. 

But, at it's heart, and the key to this working, is the individual doing his or her part to take care of himself or herself and then helping others (who truly can't help themselves) in his or her own community.

Anyway, that's an idea that is starting to make the rounds.  If it happens it could start a new tradition.

REPORT FROM YESTERDAY'S CITY COUNCIL STUDY SESSION ON THE BUDGET

When all is said and done, the City is still stealing from the rainy day fund, and robbing Peter to pay Paul as it has for the last couple of years. 

 However, cuts in city employees (down to 498 today from 611 in fiscal year '07-'08), plus other cuts and some increased projected revenue shows that in fiscal year '10-'11 Costa Mesa is projected to take in $91.8 million and spend $93.2 million.  Yes, that's still spending $1.4 million more than we're taking in, but it's better than the $7.3 million more spent than we took in during '09-'10. 

The CM PRESS thinks we can do better by continuing to right size government and by getting rid of nanny welfare state freebies that the City has been handing out year after year, sometimes to illegal aliens. We also think there's still too much overtime in some departments and we believe that one fire station can be eliminated.

The CM PRESS has attended many of these budget meetings, but this was the first one with the new City Council, and we have to tell you we're impressed with the no nonsense attitude that we heard from most on the Council.

It sounds to us as though this new Council means business and isn't going to have smoke blown up their skirts and isn't going to be lulled to sleep with bureaucratic double speak.

Eric Bever told staff at the meeting that he wants them to find $ 3 million more in cuts, and that he wants Costa Mesa City salaries brought in line with state wide averages (right now, Costa Mesa pays more than most other cities in the state).

Jim Righeimer spoke about the "new normal" budget and about [shifting priorities] to fix our infrastructure such as roads.

Steve Mensinger wants the City to come up with a fixed percentage for the fund balance [that's the rainy day fund].  Mensinger said this after Righeimer had tried to nail staff down to what the percentage should be and was given a series of fuzzy answers about how it should be as much as possible.

Gary Monahan wants staff to come back with more information on employee retirement and pension benefits and any increases that the City will have to bear.

Haiti and the Dominican Republic both share the same island.  They have the same weather and other natural conditions.

Haiti is a hell hole and the Dominican Republic isn't. 

Why is that the case?

See if you can figure it out from these facts from the CIA World Factbook:

The Dominican Republic has 9,823,821 residents.  Haiti has 9,648,924 residents.

73% of the residents of the Dominican Republic are mixed race.  16% are white. 11% are black.

95% of the residents of Haiti are black. 5% are mulatto and white.

Maybe you need more facts.  Just go to the CIA World Factbook and see if you can come up with other facts that might demonstrate some cause and effect about why the two countries on the same relatively small island are so different.  We'd like to hear what you come up with as a theory. Really.

Until we hear a reasonable theory, we'll rely on our belief that genes are us.

Dupnik is the lefty who has been whining about the right wing and Rush Limbaugh.  He also opposes Arizona's law against illegal aliens.  Figures, right?

Dupnik reminds us of a couple of former lefty cops in Costa Mesa who sometimes used their positions to whine about similar things and who seemed to be  trying to stir up people into believing in some sort of right wing racist conspiracy whenever anyone spoke out about the problem of illegal aliens in Costa Mesa. 

And, we believe that there are still a few lefty cops and civilian employees like that in the CMPD. We call them "the clique."

COSTA MESA TAXPAYERS FOOTING THE BILL FOR OUT OF TOWN SPORTS TEAMS

The City of Costa Mesa leases sports fields on many elementary school campuses from the NMUSD to the tune of about $ 200,000 per year.

The City then lets some sports team organizers use those fields for free.

The rub 1:  Those sports team organizers charge their players to be on the teams and they apparently then pocket the money instead of paying some of it to Costa Mesa for the use of the fields.

The rub 2:  Some of these organizers are from Santa Ana.

The Rub 3: The way Costa Mesa's Recreation Division has set things up, Osama Bin Laden could get free use of our fields and the City Council wouldn't be able to stop him.

What the CM PRESS would like to see: We'd like to see the regulations changed so the City Council has the final say on who can and who can't use our fields and on what basis and how much they should pay.

And, we'd like to see the City at least break even on the use of these fields, instead of picking the pockets of taxpayers of Costa Mesa.

MORE ON THE POLYGAMY CASE IN CANADA

In an age when people are being told that homosexual marriage is as normal as heterosexual marriage and that the former provides a proper environment for children, there are those who are trying to prove that polygamous marriage between males and females is wrong and a bad environment for children.



How does one sort it all out?



Look to nature. Nature screams out to all living things to make more like themselves. To do otherwise is to become extinct. 



Those organisms that have the most offspring like themselves who in turn are also able to carry on and make more like themselves, survive. Those that don't make more like themselves, die off. This is true of individual organisms and groups of organisms.



Someone we know did some genealogical research and found that she was descended from Charlemagne.

But before this person could get an ego boost from this, she learned that about half of  all European descended peoples (read White people) living today have Charlemagne in their family trees, as he had children by a number of different wives and other women (sort of serial polygamy). And, these children followed in dad's footsteps and also had many children with different wives and women and so on and so on.

It is clear from this that the particular genetic recipe that made Charlemagne was a successful one since it has survived down the centuries while others have died off.

Had Charlemagne been gay or had he not had many children with many women, history might be very different. In fact, you might not be here to read this.

HIRE LOCALLY--PUT COSTA MESANS TO WORK

California has a misguided law that keeps cities from demanding that city employees actually live in the city that pays them.

Other states have a better idea.  Massachusetts, for example, has no such law, and the city of Boston requires that everyone who works for the city lives in Boston.  If any city employee if found to be fudging on this, they're fired.

The CM PRESS believes that Costa Mesa City employees should live in Costa Mesa. 

This means our firefighters, our cops and everyone else. 

Now, if Costa Mesa were as expensive as Newport Beach, an argument could be made that having low ranking city employees live in the city might be a hardship.  But, Costa Mesa is not as expensive as Newport Beach.

We'd like to see the new City Council let it be known that the City wants to encourage all city employees to live in Costa Mesa, and we'd like to see the City Council make sure that people who live in Costa Mesa get first consideration for new jobs.

In addition, we'd like to see the City Council let department heads know that it would be "nice" if they moved to Costa Mesa as soon as possible.
