TONIGHT'S PLANNING COMMISSION AGENDA

If you've never been to a Planning Commission meeting, you might give it a look.  The Planning Commission is the second most important body (after the City Council) in the city and the only commission that is required by law (the Parks and Recreation Commission is not required by law).

The Planning Commission is also often the farm team for the City Council so if you want a peek at who may run in the next election with a chance of moving up to the Council, the Planning Commission is the place to start.

LA TIMES ARTICLE SAYS DORNER'S FIRING RESTED ON CREDIBILITY

In the above linked article you'll read that during an appeal by Dorner of his firing from the LAPD, a judge said he wasn't sure who was telling the truth, but the judge then went along with the LAPD and let the firing stand.

Wouldn't common sense dictate the use of a lie detector in such circumstances and even if there were mixed results--say, both Dorner and the other officer both thought they were telling the truth with Dorner saying the other officer kicked the suspect and the other officer saying she didn't--that Dorner should get the benefit of the doubt and not be fired?

Many commenters believe that Dorner was wronged in this matter and that he was really fired because he broke the unwritten code of not reporting another officer for doing something wrong. Dispelling that belief is going to be hard to do since so many people have personal experiences where cops have lied about things.

Here in Costa Mesa, we know of a couple of such incidents where the cops lied or used their positions to do things that were simply wrong, and there's also a guy who comes to almost all City Council meetings who claims that cops have lied about a case that he's involved in.  It's hard to sort out what this guy's complaint really is because when he goes to the podium his comments are cryptic and are obviously just part of what he has previously told the Council in private or in longer conversations or letters.

It is imperative that every police department weed out cops who lie or who misuse their authority.  That's the only way that the many good cops will regain respect and not be seen as the enemies of ordinary citizens.

A Black female was also wounded in the foot, but it's likely that she wasn't a target as the three Black males appeared to be targeting White people.

BTW, we checked many news sources, and the one linked to above was the only one we could find that gave the race of the shooters and the victims.  Of course, this is typical of the establishment press that tries to hide Black on White violent crime.

Establishment press usually refers to the perps in such incidents as "teens," or "youths," in an attempt to hide their race.  However, at least in this case, the video shows that all of the attackers are Black.

Trust your eyes.  The establishment may fool you with words, but your eyes tell the truth.

OC REGISTER FINDS A COUPLE OF WHITE CRIMINALS!

And, just so you know they're White, the Register has published a photo of one of the guys--the one who was arrested.  And, the other is described in the report as "white."

Contrast the above descriptions with the many non-descriptions  that appear in the paper where criminals are never described by race when the criminals aren't White.

By emphasizing the race of criminals when they're White and by not giving racial/ethnic descriptions of criminals when they're non-White, the impression is created that crime is an equal opportunity employer.

Don't be fooled. Crime, and especially violent crime, is definitely not an equal opportunity employer.

BALTIMORE ESTABLISHMENT IN PANIC AS VIOLENT BLACK STREET CRIME IN THAT CITY IS KEEPING WHITES AWAY FROM LOCAL MERCHANTS

You won't find the above headline in the linked to story about a 15-year-old youth being killed in a knife attack.  You won't find it in the story about the robbery and attack of another man.  And, you won't find it in the reports of the many violent Black on White attacks that happen in that city all the time.

But, that's the reality of it.

Baltimore's establishment has been trying to attract White tourists with money to the city, and just as in a cheap SciFi movie where the local establishment tries to hide the fact that the local lake has a mutated giant shark or snake, that is eating bikini clad beauties, the establishment in Baltimore is trying to downplay the danger from Blacks to Whites in the touristy areas of the city.

Before the internet, many more Whites were lulled into walking into danger as they tried to figure out the content of the character of the menacing Black gang types heading their way, but now, thanks to the internet, many Whites are awake and they're no longer wasting even a second of their time or burning even a single calorie in trying to figure out who is dangerous and who isn't.  Why even bother?  What's to gain?  Nothing.

And, thinking about this in economic terms is sometimes helpful to wade through the BS about diversity is wonderful, etc.

So, in such economic terms, but sidestepping the direct racial issue:  Why would you spend even one second of your time or spend even one calorie in trying to figure out which shark might attack you and which one won't?  What do you have to gain in being around any sharks at all?  Nothing. Where's the payoff?  There is none.  The principle is the same with humans who pose a danger.

ELEANOR EGAN ASKS TO BE APPOINTED TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION

At last night's City Council meeting, liberal Eleanor Egan asked the City Council to appoint her to the Planning Commission.

Eleanor was on the commission before, and she was a waste of a seat in our view. Hopefully, the Council will not appoint her.

Eleanor's world view seems too squishy to us, and she's really done little of substance for the Westside even though she lives there right on the bluffs.

As part of her comments last night, Eleanor said that she was one of the co-founders of the Westside Improvement Association.

Well...let me tell you how that organization actually came to be.

Back about a decade ago, the CM PRESS was at a City Council meeting when a woman from Corona del Mar came to the meeting and requested that the City Council turn the Westside into a new Huntington Park (read Latino ghetto).

We thought such an idea was a big mistake for the ocean close Westside. So, after the Council meeting, we immediately wrote up our own plan for the revitalization of the Westside.

Then, we called a man we know in Mesa North to see if he knew anyone on the Westside who was conservative and politically active--since, at that time, we didn't know a single soul who lived in that part of town.

He suggested that Jan Davidson was once active but that she hadn't been so in years.

We called Jan on the phone, and arranged to meet her at her home on the Westside.

So, with our then 4-year-old son in tow, we went to Jan's house,  and had a discussion with Jan and her husband during which we made some minor tweaks to our Westside revitalization plan.

At the next City Council meeting, Jan, her husband, and I presented our proposal to the City Council at public comments.

After the meeting, I got a telephone call from Eric Bever (who I had never heard of) and he said that he had seen our presentation to the Council and wanted to meet.

We set up a meeting in Mesa North at the old Diedrich's coffee shop (which is now a Starbucks).

Eric showed up with Eleanor and Tom Egan and a couple of other people and we discussed forming the Westside Improvement Association.

It was suggested that I head up the association, but I told them that  I didn't  have the time to do so, and, since I don't live on the Westside, I'd take a back of the corn role.

After that meeting, the real improvement activism started that led to the election of several people to the City Council (over several elections) and the City sponsored Westside committees and the generation of the Westside Plans--that you can link to over on your right of this page.

That's the way I remember it.  So, Eleanor's role as a co-founder of the Westside Improvement Association, while technically correct, was not really as a result of her getting out front and taking the initiative, as we think she was trying to portray last night.

The most important person in the improvement effort for the Westside--after our intial plan presented to the Council--was Eric Bever, who made that phone call to us and who, during those early years, seemed tireless in working for improvement as he raised the level of improvement to a much higher level than might have been the case, had he not jumped in.

"COSTA MESA WORKS"* VIDEO ABOUT THE HOMELESS PROBLEM

At last night's City Council meeting, the City showed a video about what the City is doing about the homeless problem.  

The video isn't up on the City's website as of this writing so we can't link to it.

We give the video an A+ for its production (including editing, sound, camera work)  and general professional quality, and we give  CEO Tom Hatch an A+ for his anchor job which was as good as any professional TV anchor. 

However, we give the substance of what the City is doing, as indicated in the video, an  F-.

The video was about helping the homeless--not helping the citizens of  Costa Mesa who must walk through human feces, step over drunks, fear for the lives of themselves and their children and all the other problems that skid row conditions bring to a city.

Instead of solving the problem, the City looks as though it's making it worse.  The video told about  how a few homeless people have been helped by the City by a newly hired social worker and then it said the City wants to hire two more social workers.  Good grief!

Look, folks, we have a homeless problem because we have too many charities, and they're concentrated near Lions Park.

You want to find wild animals in the jungle?  Go to the watering hole.  That's where they'll congregate.  The same principle applies to human beings.  You want to know where the homeless people and illegal aliens congregate?  Go to where they get free food, free medical care, free clothes, bags of groceries, and now free social workers.

One young mother speaks out

During public comments, a young mother with small kids, spoke out about the fear she has of a child being harmed by some of the homeless people who congregate near her home on the Westside.  The danger is real, folks.  Many homeless people are mentally ill and can snap at any minute as they listen to the voices in their heads.

Gary Monahan says a few words

Gary Monahan, during Councilmember comments, said that the homeless problem is now spreading to the Eastside and he said you can see homeless people sleeping on bus benches each morning if you drive down old Newport Blvd from 17th Street [to Bristol].

So, why are many homeless people spreading out to the Eastside?  Again, check the charities and the churches that are within easy walking distance.

Remember when former mayor Eric Bever called the charities nuisances?

After Bever said that at least one charity was a nuisance, some of the tiny brain pathological altruists--even some from Newport Beach and other cities--whined about Bever's comments. Of course these holier than thou types didn't offer to open such charities near their homes.

Also at last night's meeting, Wendy Leece--who lives in a very safe, gated and walled neighborhood, that keeps all of "them" (pick your own "them") out, cooed about helping the homeless and said the City was trying to avoid lawsuits in what it does.  

Tear down those walls Wendy, and let "them" roam your street and see if you're so squishy about the problem.  And, you're worried about a lawsuit?  Just wait until a child gets hurt by a homeless person that the City has negligently let roam free in our parks.  We'd love to be at the deposition of any civil action that ensues:

Q. "Now, Mr. Homeless person, why are you in Costa Mesa?"
A. "I feel loved here, and I get free food and other stuff here."
Q.  "Did you get help from the City?"
A.  "Yes, the City has social workers who come out and make me comfortable."
Q.  "Have you been diagnosed as being mentally ill?"
A.  "Yes, I've been diagnosed as a violent paranoid schizophrenic."
Q. "And, did you tell the City social worker that?"
A.  "Yes."
etc.

* CEO Hatch said that "Costa Mesa Works" would be a more or less regular video effort to show what local government is doing.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING UPDATE:

At tonight's City Council meeting (which is still going on as this is written), there was much talk about the homeless problem in Costa Mesa and how it seems to be increasing.

However, there were no realistic ideas offered to solve the problem and no one even mentioned that the homeless problem is growing because of the activities of the pathological altruists; and the charities that need more and more homeless people to keep growing their charity businesses and keep those great salaries going to the charity bosses.

If you want pigeons to leave your park, you stop feeding them and making them comfortable.  Then, they'll leave all on their own. The same principle works for all living organisms including human beings.

Homeless people and illegal aliens in Costa Mesa can get free food, free clothes, free dental care, free medical care and much more.  So, why should they leave?  It's the Costa Mesa plan for salubrious living on no money.

If you want them to leave--stop the charities from attracting them and making them comfortable here.  End of problem.  Just do it.

TUESDAY'S CITY COUNCIL AGENDA

Not much there, but expect the usual crackpots to show up to tell the Council that they should appoint people that the good Councilmembers don't agree with, and who have screwy world views, to the Planning Commission and the Parks and Recreation Commission.  Yawn.

Also expect Wendy Leece, just in from her gated community, to gush about illegal alien friendly charities or some other nonsense as she rambles on and on and on and on and...you get the picture.

If we have time, we may attend the meeting to publicly suggest that the Council consider restarting some version of the old Westside Committees to help facilitate more improvement of the Westside.  If the Council doesn't do this, we may have to start moving behind the corn to help organize citizens again as we did in the past.

You may recall how those past efforts pulled in lots of people and led to the election of Chris Steel, Alan Mansoor, Eric Bever and, yes, sadly, Wendy Leece, and how they also led to the Westside Plans.

Now, we want those plans implemented. Post haste.  No more BS.  No more go-slow crap from the likes of Leece who has done nothing in her years on the Council except emote.

Made it look as though City Manager Rizzo was making $ 185,000 per year, when he was actually making almost $ 800,000 a year, and  she also made it look as though the Council Members were each making around $8,000 per year when they were actually making around $ 100,000 each.

These figures don't even taken into account any possible bribes for giving contracts to friends or for votes approving projects.

And, remember, Bell is a dirt poor community. Even so, all those excessive payments were able to be hidden.  Imagine what could be hidden in a relatively well to do city like Costa Mesa

Folks, do you need more examples to realize that we  need transparency at all levels of local government including in the mini-governments that supply water and handle sewer and trash matters and run the schools?

BREAKING NEWS FROM THE CITY OF COSTA MESA WEBSITE: 

Judge dissolves preliminary injunction preventing outsourcing

Orange County Superior Court Judge Luis A. Rodriguez this week dissolved a preliminary injunction issued 18 months ago that prevented the City of Costa Mesa from outsourcing services to private companies until a lawsuit filed by an employees' association was heard in court.

The injunction was lifted Jan. 29, less than a month after the city had withdrawn the 70 remaining layoff notices it had issued while exploring the viability of outsourcing services.

When the last of the layoff notices were rescinded on Dec. 19, the city had asked the Costa Mesa City Employees’ Assn. to drop its lawsuit, which sought to prevent the outsourcing and related layoffs. The association has not dropped the suit.

NB: Back when Gore made his comments, which seemed to be about things I had written, Alan Dershowitz did refer to me by name at a congressional hearing. I know, because I turned on TV one night and heard him do so.
