DOWN AT THE SILLY COUNCIL SALOON LAST NIGHT

ITEM 1: The CM PRESS told the City Council last night that citizens of Costa Mesa should not be paying to have our police helicopter patrol other cities, and that if these other cities wanted this service they should pay their fair share or forget about the helicopter.
Then, lefty Councilmember Katrina Foley said (paraphrasing): The Costa Mesa helicopter should help all cities in Orange County because, gosh, Costa Mesa citizens might be in those cities--such as Irvine--and be crime victims and the Costa Mesa helicopter might help them.

So, Costa Mesa citizens must pay $2 million dollars a year for a helicopter and Irvine pays almost nothing. Gee, that makes sense--if you live in Foley's bizarro lefty world. By the way, what's your chance of being a crime victim in Irvine--one of the safest cities in the U.S.? Hmmmm?
ITEM 2: The CM PRESS told the Council that sometimes the Council doesn't always think things through and often looks as though its right hand doesn't know what its left hand is doing.
As an example, we told the Council about something we had previously reported in the CM PRESS, as follows:
May 19, 2009--At the Costa Mesa City Council meeting, the Council gave $ 20,000 of your tax dollars to a charity called MIKA, which is located in the Shalimar slum, and which is run by Crissy Brooks. The Council made this donation of your money after it received a recommendation from the City Council appointed 3R Committee--of which Ms. Brooks is a member. Following so far?
September 25, 2009--The Costa Mesa Police Department arrested 11 day workers who were illegally soliciting work from street corners. Many of them were deported.
September 30, 2009--Crissy Brooks had an article in the Daily Voice in which she told about crying about the deported illegal aliens and about how she had travelled to Tijuana after their deportation to commiserate with them and let them know they had support in Costa Mesa.
After our comments about this, Katrina Foley tried to defend the Council by saying that Ms. Brooks had recused herself from the vote of the 3R Committee that recommended giving her charity $ 20,000.
Huh?
So what? Folks, do you think the other members of the Committee are going to stiff Ms. Brooks? Look, I served on the 3R Committee and I have to tell you there are very few people on that Committee who really watch your money. It's mostly a go along to get along committee.
[When I attended one of the first meetings as a member of the 3R Committee I was aghast that the Committee, with some members who had been there for more than ten years, had never even bothered to check the public record tax forms of the charities that were asking for YOUR money and had no idea of some of the astronomical salaries that the heads of some charities were getting, or how little of YOUR money was actually filtering into the hands of the needy. I then asked the City Council to require that charities supply their 1090's (tax forms), which the Council did.]
And then, Wendy Leece also tried to defend the Council's action in giving the money to Ms. Brooks' charity, by saying that the Council gives money to specific programs within charities, so the $20,000 probably didn't have anything to do with Ms. Brooks' trip to Tijuana.
Huh?
Look folks, money is fungible. When it is given to a charity, part of it goes to pay salaries and overhead. And, if money is found for one program in a charity, it frees up other money. Good grief, Ms. Leece, we know you understand this.
ITEM 3: We told the Council that members should stop the phony crap of telling citizens to buy whatever they need in Costa Mesa, when the Council doesn't do that. We pointed to an item on the agenda that gives $ 420,130 to a landscape company in Palm Desert to do some landscaping in Costa Mesa. The Council then voted to spend your money in Palm Desert. Huh?
ITEM 4: We told the Council, about the nonsense, as we had previously reported in the CM PRESS, of some CMPD officers telling citizens that if they don't like noise from neighboring properties (that violates a Costa Mesa Municipal Code) that the officers won't do anything unless the citizen puts the neighbors under citizen's arrest.
Huh?
Folks, the CMPD has full authority to do something about the noise, without causing a neighborhood war between neighbors, just as it does with stopping barking dogs without having to have a neighbor put a neighboring dog owner under citizen's arrest.
ITEM 5: We told the Council that the CM PRESS has been trying since September 26, to get information from City Hall and the CMPD about gang trends in Costa Mesa but that since our informal requests have been ignored that we have now been forced to file a formal California Public Records Act request to view the information.
Folks, the California Public Records Act was enacted to allow citizens to see what their government is doing and to pierce the veil of secrecy that so many in local governments try to erect to keep citizens in the dark.
ITEM 6: We gave our opinion that the do-nothing, not-needed Parks and Recreation Commission should be eliminated and their functions should be taken over by the Planning Commission. The Council decided to keep both Commissions. Hey, it's only YOUR money that goes to fund these commissions, and so what if City Hall has to be lit up two days for two separate commissions that have almost nothing on their agendas; why, it's all about being pals with your pals--on your dime. Oh, and by the way,be sure that you peons put in low energy light bulbs in your homes to conserve energy--unlike the Silly Council.

COUNCIL MAKES PLANNING COMMISSION APPOINTMENT
The Council appointed Jim Fitzpatrick to the Planning Commission. We don't know much about him other than what we've seen on his resume. He apparently lives on the Eastside and runs a carwash. He seems to have schmoozed with various Councilmembers so they probably figure he's someone who won't rock the boat.

These City Council members know damn well what they're doing. They're complicit in their outright treasonous behavior towards the residents of Costa Mesa. Every single one of their commie asses needs booted out. Every single one.
