WHAT IS THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL PURPOSE OF ALL LIFE?

To make more like itself.

In many species, this fundamental purpose is also an individual requirement.  That is, each individual,both male and female of the species carries a particular DNA Code that is unique to them, while still having the major parts of their code the same as others of the species.

It is incumbent for each individual to find a way to pass on his or her DNA Code to as many offspring as possible.

Those who do not reproduce--make more like themselves--are ruled unfit by nature.  They simply go personally extinct once they die as their particular and unique DNA Code goes out of existence upon their death.

We are not born as couples, but as individuals and reproduction of oneself is an individual responsibility.

WHAT DOES 'LIKE ITSELF' MEAN FOR HUMANS IN REPRODUCTION

It means finding partners of the opposite sex who in the first instance look much like you. That is, they are from the same race and have many of the same external features in common with you. By having these features in common with you, it is likely that they have parts of their DNA Code that are the same as yours. Thus, your offspring will look much like you and will carry more of the elements of your particular and unique DNA Code within them and into the future.
