CM PRESS # 472

THE HOMELESS HOUSING MEETING LAST NIGHT

The City Council Chamber was full of homeless advocates and shills last night as those behind this effort tried to convince the few stable citizens present that building homeless housing in Costa Mesa is a good thing for the stable citizens of this city. It's not.

This whole thing reminds us of George Orwell's Animal Farm in which the pigs would change the words on the barn wall every night just a little so the other animals wouldn't get wise to what was going on.

In the case of Costa Mesa, if you will recall, this all started because citizens were complaining about all the homeless people hanging around in Lions Park, the library, and around W. 19th Street.

The City then empowered a Homeless Task Force, supposedly to address the concerns of the citizens.

Of course, the City then put homeless advocates in positions to guide the Homeless Task Force, and slowly, this attempt to address the concerns of citizens over homeless people taking over the parks and possibly putting some mentally unstable people in close proximity to families and children turned into an effort, not to help the citizens, but to help the homeless.

And, that's where we are now:  A full blown attempt, not to help the stable citizens of Costa Mesa, but rather to help the homeless (and some would say this will actually cause more homeless problems in Costa Mesa because of the magnet effect and will help turn Costa Mesa into a new skid row).

Rick Francis

Kathe Head
Assistant CEO Rick Francis seems to be the person in City Hall who is primarily responsible for this plan.  He gave a few introductory remarks last night and then let Kathe Head from the Keyser Marston real estate consulting firm give a power point presentation.
Larry Haynes of Mercy House (Mayor Righeimer is on
the Board of Mercy House and is a Mesa Verde
neighbor of Haynes)

Larry Haynes of Mercy House was in the audience as was Mayor Righeimer.

During her presentation, Kathe Head kept repeating things about how we will need to teach the new residents to be good tenants.  Huh?  What the hell planet are these homeless people from?  Or, are they so insane they don't understand the basics of adult living? What do they need to know about being a good tenant?  Here it is: Don't make noise. Don't cause problems.

But, could there be more to why Head kept repeating this?  Perhaps, she was setting the stage for a situation where the citizens of Costa Mesa will have to keep paying and paying for our own social workers and for those from the non-profits to "teach" the homeless people how to be good tenants.

Folks, we've seen some nonprofits keep employees of the nonprofits fully employed via this teaching or supervising route. For example, if the nonprofit gets money for food for the poor they use some of that money; not for food, but to pay the salaries of nonprofit employees who teach the poor about nutrition or how to open cans of beans or cook the food. It's fluff.

By the way, we haven't seen a full pro forma of all the expenses and fees of this proposed housing program, and we're not sure one exists.  Who gets various management fees?  Who gets paid for supervising the construction?  Who pays year after year after year, to keep this housing and related services going?

We could list a hundred other questions that have not been fully answered, but you get the idea.

The ramifications of this housing have not been fully explored.  Instead, we are given silly statements such as the one  that "studies" have shown that homeless housing increases home values.  What a crock.

BLOOD BATH AT OC REGISTER

Lots of heads roll, including Mona Shadia's who you may recall from when she worked at the Daily Pilot and covered doings in CM by attending lots of Costa Mesa city meetings.

The OC WEEKLY seems to have the best and most detailed information on those who are now out of work at the Reg.

PROFESSOR KEVIN MACDONALD ON HIS CONVERSION TO WHITE ADVOCACY

When one has an open mind, an adequate I.Q. and knows something about nature, evolution and the ways of existence, the conversion is natural and one never goes back.

Likewise, once you learn with certainity that the Earth is not flat, you can never again believe it is, and it is no matter to you that the herd still thinks it is.

Intelligence can be lonely.
