CM PRESS # 443

THE CMPD CRIME MAP IS BACK ONLINE OVER ON YOUR RIGHT

We noticed it was down several days ago and reported it to the CMPD.

It's a good tool (but needs to be expanded as we previously suggested). You might want to take a few minutes to navigate around the map and change some of the search criteria to get a clearer picture of what's going on crime-wise in the city.  Even though many of the crimes aren't put on the map and even though a 7 day search window is too short, a discerning viewer should be able to see some patterns emerge.

One thing, though, the crime reports you'll see from the  100 block of Fair Drive are not something the neighbors should be concerned about--that's the police station and where many crime reports are taken and logged in even though the crimes haven't actually happened there.  Of course, if homeless housing is built at Civic Center Park, you can expect some real crime reports coming from that general area.  Expect robberies, burglaries, batteries, drug and alcohol offenses among others.  Maybe even a homicide or two. Also expect your home values to take a big hit.

Those of you who live in that area didn't buy your homes in a skid row, but skid row will be put in next to your homes if some people have their way.

BRAINS HARDWIRED TO ACCEPT HEALTH (AND OTHER) ADVICE FROM CELEBRITIES

Another pop-science column narrowly tailored to focus on celebrities and health.

However, read way down in the column and you'll get a slight glimpse at the why of matters: halo effect; classical conditioning, cognitive dissonance; self-conception and herd behavior.

Scratch even deeper (beyond the pop-science column) and you'll find genes behind the above psychological causes of the behavior.

NICE CHART SHOWING THE $37 + BILLION DOLLARS OF YOUR MONEY THAT THE POLITICIANS IN D.C. ARE SENDING TO FOREIGN NATIONS INSTEAD OF SPENDING IT HERE IN THE U.S. TO HELP CITIZENS

Charity begins at home, and the U.S. should stop all foreign aid.  It's our money, and it should be spent in the U.S. to benefit U.S. citizens.

The U.S. should practice non-interference in the affairs of foreign nations.  We don't have to buy friends. We don't have to be the planet's police man.  We don't have to feed the world's hungry so they can have more children to crowd us off the planet.  Let nature run its course around the planet.  Just butt out.

HAVE YOU NOTICED HOW ALL THE HYPOCRITICAL HATERS ARE CONSTANTLY WHINING ABOUT SOMEONE MAKING A TRAIL SAFE FOR KIDS IN FAIRVIEW PARK BUT THEY'RE SILENT ABOUT ONE OF THEIR PALS SHOOTING AT CROWS WITH A SLINGSHOT?

Hey Haters, why are you silent about this? Why aren't you calling for an investigation based on the federal law shown below just as you keep bringing up federal law in relation to the make-safe trail?  Hmmmmm?

You're a bunch of neurotic lefty punks and that's why most of you don't reveal your real names.

The Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 (MBTA), codified at 16 U.S.C. §§ 703712 (although §709 is omitted), is a United States federal law, at first enacted in 1916 in order to implement the convention for the protection of migratory birds between the United States and Great Britain (acting on behalf of Canada[1]). The statute makes it unlawful to pursue, hunt, take, capture, kill or sell birds listed therein ("migratory birds"). The statute does not discriminate between live or dead birds and also grants full protection to any bird parts including feathers, eggs and nests. Over 800 species are currently on the list [Including American crows--Corvus brachyrhynchos].

And, why are you silent and not calling for an investigation since it appears that the following Costa Mesa Municipal Code may be relevant:

Sec. 11-14.-Discharge of weapons.
It is hereby declared unlawful for any person, other than a peace officer acting in his official line of duty, to shoot, fire or discharge, or for any person to cause or permit to be shot, fired or discharged within the corporate limits of the city, any rifle, shotgun, pistol, revolver or other firearm, or any air gun, air pistol or air rifle, or any other weapon which emits a projectile as a result of pressure exerted at the breech, except when it may be necessary to do so to protect life or property, or to destroy or kill any predatory or dangerous animal, unless said person shall have first obtained permission in writing to do so from the chief of police
