BREAKING NEWS--FINAL VOTE COUNT--TWO MORE FLUKES!

Here's the final vote count for the November 7, election.

Allan Mansoor 10,122 25.9%
Wendy Leece 9,524 24.4
Bruce Garlich 8,280 21.2
Mike Scheafer 7,255 18.6
Mirna Burciaga 2,717 7.0
Chris Bunyan 1,190 3.0

When the Improvers helped Chris Steel get elected, the lefties said it was a fluke. Then, they helped Allan Mansoor get elected. Another fluke. Then, it was Eric Bever. Fluke. Now, it's Mansoor(again) and Leece. Two more flukes.

Get ready for some more flukes as the citizens of Costa Mesa continue to reject the negative and divisive views of the likes of Katrina Foley and Linda Dixon and their pals. Our view is that citizens are fed up with the crime and the downscale conditions. Citizens are saying they don't want Costa Mesa to devolve to being an inner city. They want it to be a coastal city with a high quality of life. Obstructionists such as Foley and Dixon represent old thinking that has been rejected by the good, decent citizens of this city.

Hey, Foley and Dixon, Costa Mesa should be as nice as our coastal neighbors! Got it?

HAVE THE SEEDS OF THE SABOTAGE OF IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT IN COSTA MESA JUST BEEN PLANTED?

The Daily Pilot is asking for reader comments about having an ICE agent stationed in the Costa Mesa jail.
http://www.dailypilot.com/

In the article on the subject in the Pilot today, it sounds as though Councilmember Katrina Foley is okay with having an ICE agent in the jail. Hmmm. Does that give you pause? It should.

Here's a letter that we sent to the Pilot, but which probably won't be published.

11/29/06
Editor Daily Pilot:

Re: ICE agent in CM jail

The problem with the plan to put an ICE agent in Costa Mesa's jail--and do nothing else--is that this agent will only look at suspects who are arrested and actually brought to the jail.

Suspects who are caught and released by street cops won't be seen by the ICE agent.

And, it's at the street level where this plan can be ruined by a small clique of illegal alien friendly cops--some of whom may be holdovers from a past administration--who have political motivations and agendas.

Don't say this can't happen. It's already happening with some cops who look the other way when suspected illegal aliens violate our quality of life laws.

If some of our local political cops, who are friends with Katrina Foley and Linda Dixon and their pals, want to sabotage the ICE effort, they'll just bring fewer suspected illegal aliens to the jail.

Then, in a few months, ICE will look at the statistics and think having an agent in the jail isn't needed. As a result, they may reassign him someplace else and Costa Mesa will be back to square one as a city that is an illegal alien sanctuary city full of violent criminals.

It became very clear in the just past election that there are some CMPD officers who are up to their eyeballs in local politics and who wanted to take over the City Council for soft of crime candidates and defeat improvement minded candidates.

One reader of the CM PRESS said she was afraid to put Mansoor and Leece signs in her yard because there were cops going up and down the street handing out Garlich and Scheafer literature and acting in an aggressive manner while they did so. This frightened her. She wondered if having Mansoor and Leece signs in her yard would cause cops to not respond to her calls or respond very slowly if she needed the police. She also wondered if the cops might retaliate by giving her traffic tickets for trumped up violations.

Add to the above concerns, the fact that more than 70% of the cops who work for Costa Mesa don't even choose to live in this city. Thus, they have a less visceral and personal stake in keeping this city safe for citizens.

Cops who live in a city, and who have their spouses shopping at local stores and who have their kids in local schools, are probably more interested in getting illegal alien criminals off the streets that those who are just punching a time clock.

The city of Boston, Mass. fires cops and city employees if they don't live in that city. We can't do that in California, but we can encourage our police officers to move here where they're getting paid.

CMPD PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES (INCLUDING UNWRITTEN ONES) MAY NEED REVIEW

Now that the feds are saying they'll put an ICE agent in the Costa Mesa jail to check on the citizenship status of those who are brought to the jail, lefties are crowing that those who want illegal aliens arrested and deported have suffered a defeat because now Costa Mesa won't train our cops to check on immigration status.

If we understand this program correctly, it appears that the ICE agent will only check the status of those who are actually checked into the jail; not those who are brought to the station and then let go. This could be a major distinction.

In addition, could there be, as a writer to the CM PRESS has suggested, a small clique of CMPD officers, including some brass, who are left over from a past administration, who have a don't ask, don't tell policy regarding illegal aliens such that they'll arrest illegal aliens for major crimes and bring them to the station, but they won't bring people to the station, where they might come to the attention of the ICE agent, if the cops suspect them of being illegal aliens and whose offenses are minor or if they lack proper ID, drivers licenses, proof of auto insurance or registration?

Will we now see fewer illegal aliens arrested and checked into the Costa Mesa jail by officers who were active in the just past election in trying to defeat candidates who want Costa Mesa to be less of an illegal alien sanctuary and more of a law and order city?

In other words, are some local cops going to play politics with citizen safety and allow our city to remain an illegal alien sanctuary city or are they going to be professional and protect the citizens of this city from the ever rising violent crime rate that is largely being fueled by those with some nexus to illegal aliens?

7-11 ON BAKER STREET ROBBED BY TWO HISPANICS
In # 14 we reported that the CMPD helicopter was over Mesa North for about an hour at around 2:30 a.m. on the 27th. The reason, apparently, was that the 7-11 at the strip center near the Fillmore and Mendoza slums was robbed by two Hispanics brandishing a gun. The dos amigos have not been caught.

Perhaps the CMPD can check the nearby slums. No doubt the CMPD policy of schmoozing with illegal aliens will cause many illegals to come forward with tips. Laugh out loud.

Folks, it's time that the City Council start buying up individual slum buildings, razing them and putting in the much needed sports fields. Costa Mesa is upside down as far as renters vs. homeowners. The ratio, in round numbers, is 60% renters and 40% owner occupied in our city. This is unbalanced and it helps created an unstable city.

Meanwhile, out where Katrina Foley and Linda Dixon and their out of touch gang hang out, with their heads buried in the sand, we hear the cry of the ignorance is bliss crowd: "Crime? Costa Mesa doesn't have any crime. We've never seen any crime."

JIM FISLER FOR CITY COUNCIL IN '08?

At last night's (11/27) no-Planning Commission meeting, the CM PRESS told the Commission that we've been receiving favorable reports from improvement minded citizens about Commissioner Jim Fisler and we suggested that Commissioner Fisler might start thinking about running for the City Council in two years.

Indeed, in two years, Linda Dixon (Boo), Katrina Foley (Boo), and Eric Bever (Yeah) are up for reelection. If Bever and Fisler decide to run, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, they'll more than likely have the big "I" and small "i" improvers behind them.

A Bever/Fisler team could win two more seats for those who want an improved Costa Mesa. The third seat would be fought for by Foley and Dixon and anyone else who jumps into the race.

Still, the election is a long way out and things can change. But that's how we see things as of this writing.

WELCOME TO COSTA MESA!

TWO SOUGHT IN YET ANOTHER SHOOTING IN COSTA MESA

("We don't have any crime," say the supporters of Katrina Foley and Linda Dixon)

The Daily Pilot is reporting today that two Hispanic males (citizenship status can only be guessed) shot at Timothy Smith, 21, of San Francisco and his three passengers who had stopped at a red light at Placentia and 18th Street around 10:50 p.m. Friday night. No one in Smith's vehicle was hit, but the car has a bullet slug in the door (not a bullet "casing" as reported by the Pilot). Here's the link to the Pilot, but as of press time for the CM PRESS, the Pilot had not updated its website: http://www.dailypilot.com/articles/2006/11/27/publicsafety/dpt-policefiles27.txt

Smith then drove his passengers to the Newport Beach Police station to report the crime. Why not the Costa Mesa Police station? Well....

Here's a suggestion that might help find the shooters: check some of the midnight basketball type of charities on the Westside.

Meanwhile, the man who was found beaten(?) on Arlington the other day and who at last word was still in an induced coma is in critical condition.

Also, the CMPD helicopter was doing tight donuts in the sky and using its spotlight over the Fillmore slum at around 2:30 a.m. today (Monday, 11/27), for about an hour. No further information was available as of publication

Crime? Foley and Dixon and their pals are busy trying to deny that we have much violent crime in Costa Mesa and some are writing letters to the Daily Pilot saying they've never seen any crime. One guy even wrote that another citizen who had complained about crime must just have bad luck, because this letter writer hasn't seen any crime. Right. And, what about the five murders we've had over the past few months? Maybe they just didn't happen. After all, Foley and Dixon and their supporters apparently didn't see anyone murdered.

What we need are some more charities full of Great White Mothers and Great White Fathers to love and nurture illegal aliens and tell them that it's not polite to shoot at citizens but we sure do want more illegal aliens in Costa Mesa.

Of course, the libs such as Foley and Dixon probably consider even mentioning the high violent crime rate in Costa Mesa to be (here come the cliches) "divisive," and "pitting neighbor against neighbor." We have to pretend that our high crime rate, our failing schools, our deterioriating neighborhoods, our fleeing middle class, don't have any connection to this city being turned into an illegal alien sanctuary.

If you're fed up with crime and other problems in this city, let the City Council know your feelings. The Council is supposed to work for you. Here's the email address: op2council@ci.costa-mesa.ca.us

MAN FOUND UNCONSCIOUS IN STREET AT EDGE OF MESA DEL MAR

Here's the OC POST link about 59-year-old Charles Patrick Martin who was found unconscious on Arlington Ave. (near Davis School and OCC) on 11/20 with facial fractures and broken ribs. He's in the hospital in an induced coma. The CMPD is looking for any relatives of Martin.

As of this writing, the CMPD doesn't have a press release posted on the City's website about Martin.

In the absence of information, and given our high violent crime rate, is it too out of line for citizens to wonder if Martin is the victim of a crime? Was he the victim of a hit and run? An assault and battery? Was this an attempted murder?

Martin was wearing a shirt with an American flag when he was discovered.

WHY THE CM PRESS GETS IT RIGHT AND WHY THE LOCAL DEAD TREE PRESS IS SO OFTEN WRONG.

THE CM PRESS THINKS WITH THE ITEM SHOWN ABOVE, WHILE THE DEAD TREE PRESS THINKS WITH THE ITEMS SHOWN ON THE RIGHT.

Ah, Ms. Dixon, that's a brain above and those are kidneys on the right.

HAS DIXON SEEN THE LIGHT?
(We doubt it)

Speaking of Linda Dixon; at the City Council meeting this past week, Ms. Dixon told Mayor Mansoor that now that the election is over she wants to work with Mr. Mansoor and the [improvement] majority on the Council.

Well, Ms. Dixon, talk is cheap.

Back on August 11, Ms. Dixon, the Daily Pilot ran your stupid column "Why we must stop Mansoor," in which you wrote: "Beware Allan Mansoor!"

You also wrote in that column, the same smarmy crap that is coming from some of your extremist pals: "I read, with great disgust, the comments from 'Minuteman' Mayor Allan Mansoor."

And, you also wrote: "Mansoor and his string of puppets are on a mission to divide Costa Mesa and pit neighbor against neighbor, and they will not be happy until we are one big 'lily white' community."

We all know what you were trying to imply in your screed, Ms. Dixon.

The CM PRESS will be watching and counting your votes on the dais over the next two years, Ms. Dixon, and we'll let our readers know if you now understand that the voters of this city want an improved Costa Mesa, and if you vote accordingly.

Over the past couple of years, Ms. Dixon, the CM PRESS has watched as you voted in lockstep with Katrina Foley against improving this city. It seemed that it was almost always just you and Foley voting against improvement.

The CM PRESS will know pretty fast whether or not you're going to start working to improve this city or whether your words are just empty.

You'll see the CM PRESS at City Council meetings and elsewhere, Ms. Dixon. We're not going to let you get away unnoticed with saying one thing and doing the opposite.

Citizens of Costa Mesa want our city to be improved. Period.

WHAT VIOLENT CRIME? WE DON'T SEE ANY VIOLENT CRIME! DUHHH!

Remember during the just past campaign for the City Council how some of Garlich and Scheafer's supporters were writing letters to the dead tree Daily Pilot and saying that they didn't see any crime in the city?

Most Improvers just laughed at them for being so out of touch with reality.

Well, in the OC REGISTER today there's a breakdown of violent crime in some major OC cities.

And, guess what? Of the cities shown from the ring of cities (see OC REGISTER, 11/23/06 pg Local 9) Costa Mesa leads the pack for an increase in violent crime. Huntington Beach and Irvine had major decreases in violent crime. Costa Mesa and Santa Ana had increases.

INCREASE/DECREASE IN VIOLENT CRIME BETWEEN 2005 and 2006 IN CITIES IN THE RING OF CITIES

COSTA MESA 20% INCREASE IN VIOLENT CRIME!

SANTA ANA
3% INCREASE IN VIOLENT CRIME

HUNTINGTON BEACH
15.6% DECREASE IN VIOLENT CRIME

IRVINE 27.4%

WE GET MAIL ABOUT RETURN TO REASON

Dear CM PRESS:

I just looked at the latest vote totals for the City Council election and noted that Allan Mansoor has now received 10,062 votes and Wendy Leece has 9,459 votes. This puts both of them well ahead of Bruce Garlich and Mike Scheafer [Mansoor is 1,863 votes ahead of Garlich and Leece is 1,260 votes ahead of him. Scheafer is far behind] and there is no chance that Garlich and Scheafer can ever catch up.

This election wasn't even close.

During the campaign, I kept hearing and seeing things about Return to Reason and about all the important people involved with the group and how they seemed to believe that with their help, their chosen candidates, Garlich and Scheafer, would easily win the election.

How could the group have been so wrong? Who is Return to Reason?

AIRPORT POINT FLEW OVER BEVER'S HEAD

SILLYCOUNCIL
--At the City Council meeting last night, the CM PRESS tried to prod the City Council into taking the initiative on some of the larger issues that face us in Costa Mesa.

One of the things we brought up is the fact that the Council needs to get aggressive with John Wayne Airport to keep it from eating up Costa Mesa.

We pointed out (in a somewhat more abbreviated manner than what follows, because of the three minute time constraint at the podium) that Newport Beach has a signed and sealed deal that allows that city to stop any growth of the airport on Newport's land, but that Costa Mesa doesn't have such a deal.

To make our point, we said that if the airport puts in a new runway or reconfigures the old one just a few degrees to the west of the present one that we'll have planes flying low over the Eastside of Costa Mesa and right over City Hall.

Councilmember Bever then (smugly?) asked the City Manager "Isn't it true, Mr. Roeder, that the FAA wants planes to take off over water and that means the present runway or any new runways can't be reconfigured to the west?" [As the CM PRESS just suggested]

The City Manager, ever the diplomat, but also one who understood our larger point, replied that the FAA does indeed have control over such things, but if the airport grows, it may do so on the Costa Mesa side of its present location.

SOME REALITY ABOUT JOHN WAYNE THAT EVEN SILLYCOUNCIL MEMBERS MAY UNDERSTAND

John Wayne is too small.

The population in South County is growing and is putting pressure on the airport to expand. This isn't going to abate.

This is a supply and demand problem. The supply of air travel in Orange County is too small for the demand for air travel.

Supply of this vital form of travel must and will expand.

The FAA, despite what Bever may think, can have planes taking off anyplace it wants them to take off. It just has to generate some reports saying taking off over the Eastside of Costa Mesa is hunky dory...and that may happen unless an alternative to John Wayne can be found.

Present attempts to keep John Wayne from seriously impacting Costa Mesa mostly revolve around capping or limiting flights. This is a losing battle. Again, it's a matter of simple supply and demand.

Some have also suggested that we should put in high speed bullet trains to a now closed down Air Force base in San Bernardino that can be made into a commercial airport. Under this idea, you'd go to the present John Wayne, which would actually be a train station, get on a train and be whisked to the real airport in San Bernardino.

By the time something like this is done, you may even be able to get to John Wayne with your personal rocket backpack. No, dear readers, this is not a good solution.

THE REAL SOLUTION

The answer to keeping John Wayne as small as possible, as we've written many times before, is to have part of the Camp Pendleton Marine base turned into an international airport. This will allow planes to take off over water--and a few surfers down below--and it will be in the right place at the right time to fill the demands of growing South County. It will also be convenient for the rest of Orange County and much of San Diego County.

Then, John Wayne can be held to lower limits ad infinitum (that means "forever," Ms. Dixon).
# # #
IN RELATED NEWS...

John Wayne Airport's Airport Land Use Commission told the Council last night that it's not keen on the proposed high rise condominium project near the Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.

The Council, which had been expected to approve the five residential projects consisting of eight 24 to 25 story condo towers, each about 315 feet tall, put off making a decision until January.

Now, dear reader, why do you think there would be an objection to such large residential towers near the area where planes come in low to land at John Wayne Airport? In fact, these towers would be to the west of the present landing path. Hmmm. Let's put on our thinking caps.

Well, if John Wayne were to expand west into Costa Mesa and eat up Red Hill Avenue and maybe even more land to the west of that between Bristol Street and Red Hill and if the airport put in another runway (which it needs right now), then these buildings would be in the danger zone.

Never fear, though, Councilmember Bever says that planes have to take off over water. But, what about landing? Aren't they landing over land now? Hmmmmm?
